The Experience

Monachyle is unique – a designer hotel on a remote hill farm that started life as a B&B. Today it’s one of the hippest places to stay in Scotland and it’s still run by the same family with the children at the helm. Dick farms, Melanie designs the magical rooms, Tom cooks some of the best food in Scotland. It sits in 2,000 acres of blissful silence at the end of the track with the Trossachs circling around you and Loch Voil shimming below. Sheep graze, buzzards swoop, the odd fisherman tries his luck. Inside, there’s a cool little bar, a fire in the sitting room, then a slim restaurant that drinks in the view. Bedrooms ooze 21st-century chic: big beds, cool colours, fabulous design, hi-tech gadgets. Bathrooms are equally good, perhaps a deluge shower in a granite steam room or claw-foot baths with views down the glen. Loft-house suites are enormous, but the smaller rooms are lovely, too. Dinner is a five-course feast with beef, lamb, pork and venison all off the farm. Rob Roy lived in the glen, you can visit his grave. The hotel holds a festival in May – fabulous food and cool Scottish tunes.

Reviews

Just a beautiful place to spend a weekend. Incredible setting with even a five minute walk down the road taking you past gorgeous lochside scenery. The food is incredible, and almost entirely grown/reared/baked (even brewed) by the folk at mhor or their immediate neighbours. We stayed in one of the feature rooms, which had twin bath tubs side by side in the huge bathroom. We're going to have to go back just to find out what "feature" the other ones have... And to eat more of those fabulous little scone-like rolls that came with breakfast

Chris, Bristol

Absolutely brilliant experience. Arrived by Seaplane, Defender drive cross country to the Hotel. Sat outside and treated to an unbelievable meal in the sunshine. A truly glorious location, food, staff and service exemplary. A day to remember.
