The Experience

Rhododendrons form a brilliant guard of honour to escort you to the door, and you arrive to tea and scones in the drawing room. Admire mountain views, head off into woodland, roam the gardens – the 20 acres are stunning. Inside is just as good: elegant rooms, Persian rugs, modern art, flowers, a gleaming grand piano; sunny bedrooms are luxuriously comforting.

Happy hens foraging in the fields lay your breakfast eggs, oranges are freshly squeezed, sausages and bacon come from a local artisan butcher and black pudding is from Stornaway. Omelettes and smoked salmon too. Walk it off in the grounds, surrounded by wildlife. This area is known as the ‘mini Highlands’ and the countryside is beautiful.

Pitlochry is a 15-minute drive for the Festival Theatre and many restaurants and shops. Sally and David know their patch well and can give tips on all the best places to visit, help plan walks or give you space for a very peaceful break.

Reviews

We loved our three night stay and hope to return. The house - location and interior are exceptional. David and Sally provide so many touches that somehow underline the care that they have put into welcoming their guests. Beautiful surroundings, with relaxed and hospitable comfort. A premium service with no fuss. Breakfast was generous and delicious. Great place to just stop for once, red squirrels, birds, chickens and views to stare at - we couldn't have asked for more!

Anthea, Gerrards Cross

An absolutely stunning place to stay, surrounded by acres of beautiful land and wildlife. A 5/10 minute drive from the centre of Pitlochry, and very easy to get to from the main road. We felt instantly at home upon arrival thanks to Sally and David (who makes the best shortbread we have ever tasted!) They had great recommendations throughout our trip and provided beautifully prepared breakfasts every morning while we watched the deers and red squirrels through the window. We absolutely loved our time staying here and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful holiday! 10/10

Location

The neighbourhood

This is glorious walking and cycling countryside but culture is close. Dunkeld (20 minutes) with its pretty coloured houses and cathedral sits on the river Tay and has a view of Thomas Telford's famous bridge. Aberfeldy is 20 minutes for the wonderful Watermill Bookshop, gallery and café – don't miss The Birks, a circular walk with dramatic drops down into the gorge. Explore Blair Castle.

Local points of interest from Sally Keay & David Royce

  • Visit historic Blair Castle and Gardens, ancient seat of the Dukes of Atholl. Equestrian enthusiasts will love the annual horse trials held in the castle grounds. Go wildlife spotting on a ranger safari or pony trekking in the hills..
  • How about a spot of retail therapy at House of Bruar. Browse the extensive collections of fine country clothing, sample top quality local produce in the foodhall and enjoy a spot of lunch in the excellent restaurant.
  • Go birdwatching at the Loch of the Lowes Nature Reserve - a spectacular freshwater loch where breeding ospreys nest close to the hide. Combine this with a visit to Historic Dunkeld Cathedral and The Hermitage, a National Trust property.
  • Take a tour of the renowned Edradour Distillery, Scotland's smallest traditional distillery producing fine single malts. If you're feeling energetic, combine this with a quick hike up nearby Ben Vrackie for a great view. We suggest you do the hike first!
  • Enjoy a show at the marvellous Pitlochry Festival Theatre, the 'Theatre in the Hills'. With a different production on each night throughout the summer season, there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy.
  • Browse the artisan shops and visit the art galleries in nearby Aberfeldy. Enjoy coffee and cake at the award winning Watermill bookshop. Stroll through the famous leafy Birks of Aberfeldy following in the footsteps of poet Robert Burns.

Introducing

Sally Keay & David Royce

David and Sally, nature and animal lovers, live in the main part of this pretty Edwardian house, built as a private residence for the 9th Duke of Atholl. They're dab hands at B&B so are naturally at ease with guests and able to point you to all the best parts of the county. You may bump into one of their dogs or cats when you venture outside.
