The Experience

The setting couldn’t be more beautiful and you’re bang on the North Coast 500 route, so cyclists will be off early. Fuel up with one of Jo’s magnificent breakfasts: homemade granola with ginger, honey and whisky, fruit compote in season, organic yogurt and porridge, then bacon, tomatoes, free-range organic eggs from their hens (when they are laying), locally smoked salmon, home-baked bread or sourdough. Vegetarian and vegan alternatives will be equally delicious.

The dining room doubles up as a sitting room and has lovely views, lots of books, a comfy sofa and a wood-burning stove. Settle here to plan your day, or out in the garden where there are lots of birds to watch and the northern lights to observe when you’re lucky. There are grand walks from the door, looking out for eagles and sea eagles.

Return to homemade cake, supremely comfortable beds and gleaming bathrooms with Faith In Nature soaps and lotions. A very restful place.

Reviews

God's own country up here between the mountains and the sea, perfect for outdoorsy types and those who love nature. Walk to a stunning beach or into a bustling foodie town – indoors is cosy and warming, outside is untamed nature, your breakfast is fit for a king and much of it is home-grown. Jo and Trevor are passionate about what they do and try to be as eco-friendly and sustainable as they can.

Location

The neighbourhood

You're 1.5 miles from Lochinver, a pretty fishing village with a growing foodie reputation. Delilah's is run by a young couple who have returned to the area, and there's Lochinver Larder for famous pies, Peet's Restaurant and lots of little cafés. Puff up Suilven for fab views.

Local points of interest from Jo Wright

  • The stunning world famous Achmelvich beach is just a mile away from us - we are the closest B&B to Achmelvich. Unwind with a book on the white sandy beach, wild swim in the clear turquoise sea and refuel after with fish and chips from the beachfront chippy.
  • Having previously spent many years running our own artisan organic bakeries, you can be sure that there will be freshly baked, home-made, organic bread for breakfast alongside fresh seasonal fruits, compote, home-made whisky infused granola and much more.
  • We have an organic kitchen garden where we grow a wide variety of fruits, herbs, vegetables and flowers for our guests at Ardmore House. You will be greeted by our little flock of hens who potter around in the garden and lay the tastiest eggs for breakfast.
  • Ardmore House is perfectly positioned for getting into the wild outdoors. There are lots of shorter walks nearby however for the more adventurous, there are iconic hills and mountains such as Suilven, Canisp, Quinag, Stac Pollaidh, Ben More and Conival.
  • A quick 5-minute drive into the local village of Lochinver will greet you with all the facilities you need such as restaurants, cafes, bars, gift shop, bookshop, small grocery stores, fuel station, electric car charging points, plus the famous pie shop!
  • The local area is a dream for outdoor adventure enthusiasts - try your hand at fishing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, deer stalking or have a relaxing boat trip around the local sea and lochs - you can even go on the Handa island ferry to see the puffins.

Introducing

Jo Wright

Jo (an artisan baker) and Trevor (a furniture maker) are both from North Yorkshire and always had a dream to run a sustainable B&B in the Highlands. They've planted oodles of fruit trees, grow all their own fruit and veg organically and compost like maniacs – including all the ash from the wood pellet boiler. You may meet Mrs Horse, a deer who often visits to peer through the deer-proof fence.
