The Experience

Light pours in from view-filled windows, underfloor heating warms the polished concrete floors and the three-sided wood-burner makes sure everybody feels the glow. Unwind surrounded by an artful mix of vintage rural and scrupulously modern, with huge comfort in mind. The open plan deVOL-designed kitchen is a great place for everybody to cook together, or chat while having a stir over the Smeg cooker. You’ll find White Company china, good glasses and a box of local treats, including the owners’ cider from apples grown on the farm.

Bedrooms are calm and warm. One looks out over the River Tay, the others are cosier and have doors to a courtyard for morning sunshine. All have tiptop linen and towels, organic wool mattresses, Scottish blankets and handmade lighting by Jim Lawrence or Fritz Fryer; marble bathrooms have Noble Isle lotions.

A wildflower meadow out the back, sunset views over the river and an Ooni pizza oven mean balmy evenings are magical.

Reviews

We had a lovely stay at Parkhill Cottage, the perfect end to our Scotland road trip! The pictures don’t prepare you for how lovely the space is, attention to detail in every room, spotlessly clean and great for 6 adults. The Pale Ale and Aipple cider were a lovely treat. Ideal location to head over for a day trip to St Andrew’s and we can’t wait to return to explore more of the Fife coast.

Have just had a wonderful stay at Hyrneside in a gorgeous part of Scotland. Wondered if the cottage would be big enough but it's actually larger than the pictures suggest and the interior finish is ideal. The kids loved the area and there is a strong chance we will return.

Andrew, Tunbridge Wells

From out first enquiry, to our actual stay, Rachel could not do enough for us. The cottage is beautiful! Set in the most stunning scenery. The cottage itself is spacious, light and airy, beautifully decorated, and very luxurious. From the thoughtful welcome hamper to the gorgeous toiletries, every need is catered for. The beds are so comfortable with luxury linens and the best pillows I have every slept on! The kitchen appliances are top of the range, indeed everything about the cottage has been thoughtfully planned to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. We will most definitely return!

Rochelle, Kilmarnock

This stay was simply amazing. Loved the little touches such as the food hamper, heated floors, homemade cider, blankets and super friendly for dogs!! We also loved the pizza oven (we will be buying our own!). Will definitely come back in future & will recommend to friends and family.

Nisha, Edinburgh

Hyrneside is beyond amazing and provides the perfect location for a family get together- everything has been planned carefully by the host- even for our furry friends 10 out of 10! THANK YOU

Yves, Edinburgh

Wow! Such a beautiful place to stay. The house has been decorated to the highest standards and is a pleasure to stay in. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area - lovely walks and St Andrew’s is only 25 mins away by car.

Yves, Penicuik

The house was absolutely stunning as are the views. Beautiful location for rambling too, before returning to cosy up by the log burning stove. The best and would recommend to anyone wanting a restorative 5 star Scottish countryside escape. Super quick to get from Edinburgh too!

Alexandra, London

Glorious countryside for walkers and cyclists, great birdwatching and wildlife spotting by the river in an SSSI, whisky distillery nearby for tours and tastings, home-produced cider on the farm, golf courses galore and dogs welcome. Everybody will love it here.

Nicola, Sawday's Inspector

Absolutely stunning property - so well kitted out and to the highest standard. We loved it and hope to come back. Waking up to the view each morning was breath-taking!

David, Glasgow

Great find, the view was unbelievably beautiful! The place is very well equipped, furnished and thoroughly decorated. I feel lucky to have found this place, I enjoyed my stay and recommend it for a large group. The kitchen has everything you need to cook, there’s a pizza oven outside and two fireplaces. Everything is carefully thought out, the boot room, the bathrooms and bedrooms. This is a very special place and Rachel is very helpful.

Location

The neighbourhood

The Fife Coastal Path and National Cycle Route 777 run through the farm. You're in an SSSI on the Inner Tay Estuary so birdwatchers will be happy spotting a myriad of migratory geese and swans, along with garden birds. A short walk across the Holy Burn will take you to Lindores Abbey Distillery where you can book lunch as well as a tour. St Andrews, golf, fishing and watersports are all nearby.

Local points of interest from The Owners

  • Ideal for day trips to St Andrews, the legendary Old Course for world class golf, and the famous West Sands beach; Dundee’s impressive V&A; Edinburgh’s cobblestone streets, museums, art galleries and festivals; the East Neuk’s fishing villages.
  • Grab your wellies, wool blanket, picnic basket and tour the Apple Field full of Scottish Heritage and Classic Cider apples, picnic on the hills (the site of one of Wallace’s last skirmishes) and then walk it off on the Fife Coastal Path.
  • Walk out of the cottage and join the coastal path that runs through the farm, climb Norman's Law for great views, several trails and stunning views across the river. Over 50 golf courses in Fife if that's more your thing!
  • Visit Lindores Abbey Distillery, only a short walk away — through our Priests’ Burn Field (where we grow malting barley for their whisky), over the Holy Burn Bridge & discover the story of the Birthplace of Scottish whisky.
  • Hire an electric bike, cycle around the farm and the 124km Fife Coastal Path, or experience the very best bespoke ebike tours of Tay Country tailored to your ability with local guides, featuring a private boat crossing of the River Tay with onboard lunch.
  • Explore the River Tay: guests who are experienced sailors, paddle boarders and kayakers can access the river along our riverbank. Bring your own board or kayak, or arrange a paddle board tour with a local guide.

Introducing

The Owners

The farm has been in the Howison family for more than a century. They practise agroforestry and grow malting barley as well as Scottish heritage and classic cider apples across their 537 acres. The owners make sure you have everything you need in the cottage before you arrive and leave you to enjoy your stay in complete privacy.
