The Experience
Industrial chic meets warm minimalism in the architect-designed interiors: colours are soothing, underfloor heating warms you (but there’s an open fire too), a sculptural steel firebox doubles as a grill for indoor barbecues, the lighting is superb and you have a cunningly disguised built-in sound system and TV – rainy days won’t be a problem and everything responds swiftly and silently to the press of a finger.
The Bulthaup kitchen comes as close as wood, steel and glass can to a computer so avid cooks will be impressed. You’ll find an artisan loaf and locally produced jam and chocolate to start you off but there are plenty of places to eat in the village. Wooden stairs (an exercise in pure geometry) take you up to a romantic bedroom and sparkling shower, down to a cinema room for some serious watching on a plush sofa.
To top it all you have your own private patio for nattering with a cuppa or a glass of wine in the evening.

Location
The neighbourhood
Step out to cafés, galleries, a post office, grocery and bookshop; wander down to the harbour (still working) to watch fleets of fishing boats, small creel boats and trawlers bobbing about. East Neuk is a delightful area to explore and packed with history – learn about the 29 'witches' disposed of here. Walk the stunning Coast Path, take boat trips, buy seafood direct from the fishermen.
Local points of interest from Mel Ibbotson
- Take a wander through Pittenweem's High Street where you'll galleries, cafes and even a heavenly chocolate shop. Head down one of Pittenweem's enchanting Wynds to watch the fishing boats coming in from the Firth of Forth.
- Follow Fife's Coastal Path: head West towards Elie passing through St Monans with a pit stop for a delicious fish bite in the East Pier Smokehouse. Continue on to Elie to watch some beach cricket from one of Fife's finest beer gardens.
- Head inland to Kellie Castle where Medieval stonework meets Victorian style with an incredibly beautiful Arts & Crafts garden.
- Welcome to the home of golf! With over 50 golf courses to choose from, you really are spoiled for choice.

Introducing
Mel Ibbotson
Mel (an events entrepreneur) and Dom (a photographer) bought the house when it looked quite ordinary. It was renovated by American architect Thomas H Blurock (FAIA) and now doesn't look ordinary at all. Mel and Dom live nearby and hope that you enjoy your stay.
The exhuberant, modern design of Maybell Cottage is the perfect foil to Pittenweem's historic vibe.
