The Experience

You have your own, rather grand, front door straight into the wide hallway. All is light, bright and beautiful with interesting furniture, good art, painted wooden floors and raw plaster walls and ceilings. The sash windows with working shutters let light pour in and there’s a Bose speaker, a squishy sofa and bookshelves full of Scottish books for rainy days.

The kitchen has all the gear you need along with recipe books in case you want to experiment. There are plenty of shops within walking distance, and places to eat out or get a takeaway but you’ll find tea, coffee and basics until you can get there, along with Edinburgh chocolates. On summer evenings you join the locals in the park at the end of the street.

If you like to breakfast early just cross the road to a café which opens at 7 and serves good food. Set off for artisan producers, quirky shops and a bustling atmosphere.

Reviews

We love this beautiful apartment - it is our number one choice when we visit Edinburgh. The location in Stockbridge is perfect with some excellent independent shops, cafes, bars and restaurants just a step away. The apartment is both stylish and comfortable, and it is always a pleasure to spend time there.

Jill, London

Charming place with a very comfortable bed. The area is quiet and much more interesting than staying in the busy city center. Host is extremely responsive and provides helpful information which made our stay that much better. Highly recommend!

Joy, Maryland

This is the perfect flat for a relaxing Edinburgh stay — we actually love it so much that this was our second visit. It’s extremely well equipped, chic while being comfortable, a great location for local exploring as well as for getting around Edinburgh, and really responsive and helpful hosts. We couldn’t recommend it highly enough!

Emma, Buckinghamshire

We had such a lovely stay at The Apartment in Stockbridge. Aruna has curated the most beautiful space — all of the decor was so stylish and every small detail was well thought through. This was really special for us as we know Edinburgh very well, and so being able to have a space for the weekend that felt very homely and located in the heart of Stockbridge was just perfect. The hosts were also super helpful throughout our stay and provided us with bespoke recommendations which we really appreciated :) Thanks to Aruna for going above and beyond and I very much look forward to visiting again!

Nitya, London

Very well situated for everything you could want. The flat is all ground floor so easy access. Very well fitted out and styled, with comfortable bedroom at the back making for a restful nights sleep. Lots of space and lovely touches of design. Perfect for a short break any time of year .

Kieran, Manchester

A truly remarkable, comfortable, and gorgeous apartment in one of the best parts of town. Sparklingly clean and bright, staying in this flat was a holiday in itself. We wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else when we return to Edinburgh.

Mickey, Brooklyn, NY

Beautiful appartment with all the amenities one requires. Really comfortable, warm and stylish. In a fantastic part of town with great eateries to explore nearby.

Jemima, shaftesbury

Worth coming to Edinburgh for this gorgeous flat - you'll feel uplifted the minute you walk in.

Location

The neighbourhood

Stockbridge has a village feel thanks to the many artists and musicians who have settled here - people compare it to Belsize Park or Hampstead. You're near to the New Town (which is confusingly old) and just a 20-minute walk from both train stations so it's possible to come without a car. Fun to walk The Walkway which ends up in Leith but will also take you past the lush Royal Botanic Gardens.

Local points of interest from

  • Stockbridge is the perfect base within the city, a mini-village of a neighbourhood, chock-full of bistros, deli’s, artisan and vintage stores, cut through by the very pretty ‘Water of Leith’
  • (walk the riverside path to Dean Village and onto the Museum of Modern Art ) and just five minutes from the beautiful Botanic Gardens. Bordered by the New Town, it’s a wonderful stroll to the city-centre and the heart of the Old Town beyond.
  • Buses (a minute's walk away) can also take to you most anywhere in the city, or for those who prefer two wheels, a bike hire station is just around the corner. If you visit on the weekend don't miss Stockbridge's wonderful Sunday farmer's market!
  • Marvel at the architecture of Edinburgh’s New Town on a walking tour before heading to the Robert Adam designed Georgian House Museum, brilliantly restored to all its early-19th century period glory.
  • Take a walk to Edinburgh’s Botanical Gardens – A sort stroll away The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is one of the finest botanic gardens in the world. A pleasure for all, the Garden offers fantastic views of the capital's skyline.
  • Make like a local and go for an early morning swim at the Glenogle Swim Centre – Stockbridge’s beautifully restored Victorian swimming baths located on the grand Saxe-Coburg Place. On your return have a nose around the Stockbridge Colonies.
