The Experience
Lots of care has been poured into the renovation of this old stone building along with a healthy regard for sustainability. Zoë’s clever eye for design makes it a pleasure to walk in. Find a good-sized sitting room with a wooden table under the window for gazing, softly painted panelled walls, oak floors, bright rugs and a little Everhot stove. Choose a good book and take it to the bright conservatory with rocking chair and garden views.
A pretty double bedroom and bunk room are on this floor, then up the steep stairs and through a hobbit door a light and airy twin with sloping ceilings, not for giants but inviting nonetheless. The charming bathroom is downstairs and has a big bath with shower over, perfect after a long walk.
Cooks will be delighted with the kitchen and its fun Bert & May tiles. A Grind coffee machine and Tunnocks tea cakes welcome you, everything ugly and modern is hidden away, all is pleasing to the eye.

We think you'll love
- Walking in the forests and hills, having jolly picnics, swimming in the loch, going on boat trips, exploring this stunning countryside
- Settling into the conservatory on a dull day with a book, or just gazing at the sky and trees, feeling peaceful
- Letting the children (this is better for older ones) go completely free-range while you relax – they can make dens, charge about, find a rope swing
You should know
- Such thick walls can make the WiFi a bit patchy
- There is an A road at the front of the house which you may hear sometimes when you're outdoors and means you need to drive a little way before you start walks
- With the steep stairs from the sitting room and a little drop at the end of the courtyard this may not be a restful place to bring toddlers

Location
The neighbourhood
Roam the gardens (including a walled one in need of some attention but a romantic place to sit) a little wood and a meadow with mown paths. It's 1.5 miles to Balloch for a Co-op, restaurant and pubs. Loch Lomond is minutes away by car for cruises (one to an island with a pub) or walks. The Trossachs beckon hikers, The Hill House is close as is an RSPB bird sanctuary. Explore Helensburgh, a lively seaside town.
Local points of interest from Zoë Croucher
- Spot some deer in the morning mist, spy a red squirrel darting through the trees. See bats emerge from the eaves at dusk, and hear a tawny owl hoot in the night. Close your eyes and lose count of how many different birds you hear. All from the doorstep.
- Loch Lomond is your oyster! And only moments away. Take a dip with the mountains as your backdrop, meander in a kayak along the shores, or take a speedboat tour of the islands and stop off for lunch at one on the way.
- Mountains and hills abound, with the most fabulous views. Scotland's most southerly Munro, Ben Lomond is nearby - as well as the Trossachs and Arrochar Alps. There are many easier walks too. Soak in a piping hot bath and enjoy a dram when you get home.
- Visit the Hill House in Helensburgh, explore the independent shops and enjoy an ice cream along the seafront. Take a wander through the pretty villages of Luss, Drymen, Balmaha or Killearn and grab a pub lunch while you're there. Maybe even a distillery...
- The vibrant and wonderfully different cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh are only a 40 min and 1.5 hr drive away. World famous art collections, stunning architecture, impressive theatres, vast array of restaurants and exciting nightlife. Great for a day trip.
- Dark skies are breathtaking to gaze up at from the outdoor bath!

Introducing
Zoë Croucher
Zoë used to be an art director in film and TV. At the moment she's a stay-at-home mum who helps out with husband Iain's independent whisky bottling business. They live in the main house, love food, good company and music and they are around should you need anything. They have two young children and a very friendly dog called Daisy, all or any of whom you may stumble across in the gardens.
What a delightful place to stay. The interiors are warm and cosy and there are oodles of lovely things to look at on the walls, floors and out of the windows. Seeing it all made me very tempted to gather up my four grandchildren and spend some happy family time here.
