The Experience

Caroline is a fine baker so an afternoon treat will be waiting – a Victoria sponge filled with George’s raspberry jam or maybe some Welsh cakes just off the griddle – delicious with a pot of tea. Breakfast is good too, by the fireside and full of locally sourced meats and eggs, veggie options and homemade sourdough and pastries.

Each bedroom of this classic island cottage has a family connection and story. Upstairs Flora with its Scottish touches comes with the whole top floor and a sitting room; Nancy downstairs is all soothing blues and cosy Welsh fabrics. If it’s a ‘dreich’ day you can stay in and enjoy the warmth of the wood-burner while you dip into an interesting book on these fascinating slate isles.

A two-minute walk and you’re on Clachan Bridge enjoying the stunning Sound views; take a trip to Easdale for gardens and museum and the Sea Safari through the Gulf of Corryvreckan. Busy terrier Bramble will welcome you back.

We had a lovely stay at Caroline and George’s beautiful B&B and it was the perfect end to our Scottish trip. We stayed in Flora which was so spacious with a separate sitting room. The B&B is in a beautiful location with plenty to do locally. The breakfast was a real highlight, locally sourced, freshly made bread and all delicious! Thanks Caroline and George for being so accommodating and hopefully we can visit again.

I have very fond memories of this area. George and Caroline have opened their lovely, cosy home so that we can enjoy this truly fascinating and beautiful Island. Be prepared to be spoilt with delicious home baking and a cup of tea with more homemade treats for breakfast . A boat trip is a must to fully appreciate the incredible history of the Slate Islands that used to roof our country.

Location

The neighbourhood

Seil, one of the Slate Islands east of the Firth of Lorn, connects to the mainland by the 200-year-old Clachan bridge - right beside the house. Catch a boat a 10-minute walk from the house. There's a pub nearby; a shop in Balvicar, five minutes away; Oban is 12 miles with lots of places to eat. Take trips to Mull, Iona, prehistoric Kilmartin Glen; further afield there's Glencoe and Fort William.

Caroline Morgan

Caroline is from Wales originally, George has family connections with the west coast; they love to share their home with guests, cooking too and always have the kettle on. They both tread the boards in the local pantomime; and visitors to the island museum may spot George volunteering. He used to be the Keeper of Records for Scotland. Bramble the Border Terrier lives here too.
