The Experience

Golfers can enjoy an 18-hole links course facing the sea, a 19-hole social golf course and a novice six hole, par 3 course. You’ll also find a driving range and a track room with a simulator. Wallow in the outdoor hot tub, sink into the sauna then a cold plunge, take long walks or watch a film in the screening room. The stag lounge room has blissful views; there is an eclectic art collection, loads of comfy seating, roaring fires, books, games and chess.

Bedrooms, 39 in the main house and four lodges with little kitchens, are supremely comfortable with good reading lights, mini fridges, Roberts radios and TVs – you’ll also find soft robes. Emerge for big breakfasts of porridge, smoked salmon kedgeree, full Scottish with veggie options, fresh bagels. Afternoon tea is a treat and the dinner menu includes lots of good Scottish produce, carefully cooked.

It’s a 10-minute stroll to the beach for seven miles of unblemished sand – walk, swim, cycle on a ‘fatbike’.

Reviews

Golfers will flock – but come anyway, even if you don't know one end of a club from the other. You can head off on fabulous walks, cycle on the beach using a fatbike, spot birds and wildlife, swim clear seas, taste the finest whisky and breathe pure air. Return to eat delicious food and sleep soundly in a very comfy bed.

Location

The neighbourhood

You're up a long drive and there is only one other building in sight – a farm. Port Ellen and the ferry terminal is four miles – you can hop on a bus at the end of the drive, for some shops, a pub and a small restaurant. Bowmore is 30 mins and you'll find more shops and restaurants. Head to The Oyster Shed for great seafood; Port Charlotte is 20 minutes for the Museum of Islay.
