The Experience
You have independence from the main house, and you can come and go from this snug self-contained space that’s been created out of an old stable. Choose a picnic spot in the garden or orchard, arrange to barbecue your supper, head off on walks down the footpath from the end of the garden.
It’s a household of foodies and breakfast, delivered on a tray, includes fresh orange juice and local sausage and bacon sandwiches, or pastries, Bircher muesli and berries from the garden. On Fridays and Saturdays in the winter you can join Tom and Sara for dinner – or have it in your room; in summer it’s often served outside.
French doors open to a patio with outdoor seating and pretty views over flowers and veg patch. Wander out to sit by the warming firepit and gaze up at the stars before tucking in for the night.

What a special "Little Abode". A very comfortable and welcoming place to stay. Sara and Tom are exceptional hosts. Breakfasts were a real treat. And the homemade pizzas are unsurpassed. The garden is delightful. All in all this is now top of our list for return visits. There is plenty to do nearby with good places to eat and lovely walks. The walk from Helmsley to Rievaulx Abbey was super.

I stayed here in September 2020 with my husband for a country break. It was perfect. The room was really lovely and comfortable. We really enjoyed sitting out on the patio and looking at the lovely garden. We couldn't believe how private or quite it was - just the sound of the wind in the trees. Sara provides everything you need - so we had a little fire on the first evening which was fab. Sara and Tom are very accommodating but not intrusive. The food was lovely (we also have their homemade pizzas). We walked to a local pub one evening and visited the Star Inn on the second evening.

Set in a beautiful hamlet, offering a feel of independence and access to well-kept garden surroundings, the accommodation is excellent. Breakfast options are tasty with emphasis on local sourcing. Sara & Tom have worked hard to assure high standards of public health compliance in challenging times without burdening guests. Well placed for exploring moors, coastline, dales and countryside full of historic buildings, close to characterful towns with good shopping facilities and places to eat, this offers a lovely escape from the pressures of everyday living, in an area of great natural beauty.

We had a great stay at the Little Abode, everything was perfect. The room was spotless and very private and Sara and Tom are such brilliant hosts... and cooks! We enjoyed breakfast and coffee on the terrace and had a pizza one night from their pizza oven - delicious!

What a find! A calm oasis, spotlessly clean, beautiful tranquil garden with small private terrace to sit out and soak up the peaceful view. Hosts were unobtrusive but still attentive. Best part was the breakfast tray brought to my terrace full of lovely home made local produce. Would definitely visit again!

You can enjoy the best of both worlds here - a delicious breakfast but with your own space and access. Explore the lovely garden - you can even BBQ on your own patio and enjoy the fare with a glass of wine by the pond or among the flowers. The gorgeous North York Moors are close by for endless walking.

Introducing
Sara Hall
Tom, Sara and family moved here in 2014; they are both originally from Yorkshire and moved back from London. They have two young sons, Ted and Henry, and three dogs, Otter, Bertie and Max. They love walking, are keen foodies and are very much into gardening. They are delighted to welcome guests to stay in The Little Abode and enjoy the one-acre garden, peaceful surroundings and privacy.
We stayed at the Little Abode for a few nights during the spring bank holiday weekend. I can only speak highly of the accommodation and of Sara and Tom. The accommodation itself is lovely and curated in every little detail, and the garden is absolutely stunning and very private. We enjoyed having breakfast and spending our evenings outside. Sara and Tom were very welcoming and happy to provide their guests with anything they might need. The only downside to our stay was having to go back to our London flat.
