The Experience
The North Yorkshire Railway runs practically through the garden of this attractive stone house, so if you’re lucky you’ll spy the old steam train puffing past. Cattle may peacefully poke their heads over the fence, while the kitchen garden brims with berries – and lettuces for packed lunches.
Breakfast is in the big dining room, a friendly space with a log-burner and comfy seating corner with books. Luke and Brianne set out cereals, fresh berries, Greek yogurt, granola; or you can order a Yorkshire cooked with locally sourced sausages, bacon and black pudding to set you up for a day’s exploring. There’s also a guest sitting room with an open fire, puzzles, games and views towards the Esk Valley.
Set off on beautiful walks from the door; join the coast-to-coast path, wander along the beach at nearby Sandsend, stroll into the village for a choice of four pubs. Return to smart, restful bedrooms – all en suite.

- Amazing skies at night and great bird watching from the window
- The rambles and cycles from the doorstep - and the train station is just a 10-minute walk so you could leave your car at home
- Exploring the coast - it's less than 15 minutes away and the beaches are long and sandy
You should know
- Mobile phone signal and WiFi are both patchy
- The attic rooms are smaller and there's a steep staircase up; one room is in a separate self-contained building

We had a brilliant week at Broom House. Brianne and Luke are lovely people and their house is wonderful. They have a lovely spacious breakfast room and the breakfasts are delicious with lots of choice. Our room was lovely and had everything we needed. It is a lovely area with lots of things to do. We are hoping to go back sometime to see all the things we didn't have time to see this time.

My partner and I stayed here for a weekend due to a nearby wedding. We were so impressed with our stay at the Broom House and wish we could have stayed longer to make the most of it. Luke and Brianne are very warm welcoming hosts and genuinely lovely people. We would highly recommend the Broom House to other young couples looking a relaxing getaway in North Yorkshire to switch off from everyday life 😊

I stayed 6 nights here by myself whilst working with American tourists (who stayed in Whitby). It felt like home, with Luke & Bri looking out for me and being so helpful. Gorgeous house, super peaceful, lovely garden too. I cannot fault it.

We had a really nice stay at Broom House. We loved the comfortable house and being surrounded by garden and woodland. We enjoyed eating at nearby pubs, walking to Whitby and catching the train back to Egton Bridge, walking on the stunning moorland to the sound of curlew, and catching the bus from Whitby to Robin Hood's Bay, walking back to Whitby along the beautiful coastal path. Luke and Brianne are extremely hospitable and looked after us incredibly well from the moment of our arrival to our reluctant departure.

The house is in a lovely setting and our accommodation in the Covert suite was clean and very comfortable with views over the garden. Brianne and Luke were very friendly, welcoming hosts and the breakfasts were delicious with locally sourced produce. The location is ideal for exploring the coastline, National Park and market towns in North Yorkshire. We'll be back for another restful break.

We stayed at Broom House for two nights recently. Luke and Brianne were so friendly, warm and very welcoming. They provided good advice and information on the locality and nothing was too much trouble for them. The house is stunning and the Bridge Suite is a wonderful first floor room with views to the Moors to the South and the local countryside to the North. Breakfasts prepared and served by Brianne were excellent, as was the packed lunch. We would highly recommend Broom House for either a relaxed or an active stay in beautiful surroundings. Definitely somewhere to which we will return.

Location
The neighbourhood
The house is on the edge of pretty Egton Bridge, with views of Eskdale from the terrace; the river Esk runs through the village. The coast-to-coast path passes through Egton Bridge and Whitby is about six miles away. Malton, Helmsley and Pickering are all a 20-minute drive. There are some great beaches to walk along: Sandsend and Runswick as well as Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay.
Local points of interest from Luke Cockill
- On your 10 minute stroll into the village along the River Esk, you are sure to spy some wildlife. Enjoy a drink or some dinner at any of the local pubs. On Friday evenings during the summer, why not take the music train into Whitby for an evening out.
- We have access to some amazing cycling and walking. Come and cycle parts of the Tour De Yorkshire routes or walk along the Esk Valley route which is part of the Coast to Coast walk.
- Find yourself strolling through Whitby's Old Town. Climb the 199 steps that lead to the famous Whitby Abbey & see where Bram Stoker got his inspiration for Dracula. Take a boat trip out of the harbour & finish off the day with some amazing Fish and Chips.
- Fancy a trip to the beach! We are located within 15 minutes to Sandsend and Whitby Beach. Enjoy fossiling along the caves at Sandsend then a pizza at Tides or take a surfing lesson on Whitby Beach followed by a coffee and ice cream at Clara's.
- Take a trip to Robin Hood’s Bay & enjoy exploring this beautiful seaside village. Stroll along the beach & find the Cleveland Way back to the village. Check out the local shops & cafes. Falling Foss is a lovely hidden gem that is about 10 minutes away.
- Enjoy a country drive over the North York Moors and take time to explore Castle Howard, one of Britain’s finest historic houses. Dalby Forest is also on the way and you can enjoy miles of walking or cycling.

Introducing
Luke Cockill
Luke, Brianne and daughter Eve live here, along with Scout the dog. Luke grew up in the area, in his family’s hotel. Brianne is from the US and they met when working at Deer Valley Ski Resort in Utah. They moved to Scotland in 2013 to run a venue overlooking Loch Lomond. They’ve always enjoyed working in hospitality; Broom House is their new venture and they look forward to sharing their home.
Brianne and Luke were the kindest hosts and Broom House met every expectation. As a solo traveller, I felt welcome and comfortable. Immaculate, stylish rooms, a comfortable guest lounge, and delicious breakfasts. The North York Moors are a magical place and Broom House completed the picture. I can't recommend it highly enough!
