The Experience

This smart and friendly pub dates from the 17th century and is set in the heart of a quiet and pretty village. It’s very much a foodie destination; chef Alex Boghian has helped several places gain a place in the Michelin guide and serves well-presented, creative pub food. The cosy front room has a wood-burner and there’s a larger eating area to the rear, with plenty of drinking and eating space on the terrace and lawn too.

The nine comfortable rooms (eight with king-size beds) are on the first floor and have original oak beams and views of rolling hills and woodland. Breakfast is included – choose between full English or a vegan feast, eggs royale, avocado on toast or granola bowls.

Pootle along some lovely footpaths from the door or stride the Malvern Hills with dramatic views from the top. Head to Worcester for a tour of the marvellous cathedral, return to a local ale and a peek at the menu – the Apple Wood-Smoked Cheddar Souffle is sublime, as are pub classics or anything from the grill.

Reviews

In the heart of ancient Abberley, an inn that hums along in the friendliest way and offers culinary treats of a very high standard from chef Alex's creative and fresh menu. The wine list is a cracker too. There's a classic pub area to sup a pint from Wye Valley and plenty of outside space if the sun shines. Bedrooms and bathrooms offer a high level of comfort. This is a place to come and be spoilt.
