The Experience

An attractive Cotswold stone coaching inn with a relaxed, informal atmosphere. In the heart of a genteel village, not far from elegant Malmesbury and handy for the Badminton Horse Trials and visiting Westonbirt Arboretum, the inn is popular with locals and visitors who come to dine or stay the night.

Original features are celebrated with a cosy, stylish revamp. Quaff ale in the rustic-smart bar, dine on locally sourced and innovative dishes at scrubbed oak tables in the candlelit dining room, warm up by the glowing log fire after a country stomp with the dog. This is a flexible space for celebratory meals too. There’s a touch of magic to the secret walled garden, perfect for summer evening drinks and dinner.

Location

The neighbourhood

The charming market town of Malmesbury is three miles down the road. Westonbirt Arboretum has 600 acres of some of the oldest, tallest and rarest trees in the country. The Cotswold Water Park and Chavenage House make for super family days out. Woodchester Park (NT) is one of the region's lesser-known gems – a spectacular, Gothic-style mansion circled by five glassy lochs near Stroud.
