The Experience
Occupying centre-stage in one the prettiest of all Cotswold villages, the Sign of the Angel is a genuine period piece: all chalky whitewash and wonky beams, artful oak furniture and flagstoned passageways. The inn was taken over by energetic young brothers Tom and Jack in 2014, and has been impeccably renovated to trumpet its age.
The owners are from farming stock, and it shows in Head Chef Dan’s menu. Everything from the bread to the sorbets are locally sourced and homemade. Enjoy a cream tea by an open fire in winter, a glass of wine in the pretty garden in summer and two dining rooms for lunch and dinner. Bedrooms and a small sitting room for guests are nice and quiet upstairs. Wake to a smashing breakfast from granola and yogurt to pancakes or Full English with local green back bacon and field mushrooms, sausages made in-house and tasty vegan versions.
Wander the pretty village feeling like somebody in a film set – you are!

A wonderful experience. Everybody went out of their way to make our stay relaxing and calming. From the comfort of the bedrooms to the delicious food, not to mention the warming log fires, it was truly a memorable visit.

Excellent food beautifully presented and tremendous value for the set lunch. The new owners are doing a fantastic job. However, it is not a pub. It has been voted pub of the year 2016 - 2017, which is a little misleading. It is a restaurant with rooms. We did not stay there. A very special place in a very special village.

Location
The neighbourhood
The lovely old Tudor front faces the narrow village street, busy in summer. There are some little gift shops, a National Trust shop, a couple of other pubs, some cafés and a very good deli and bakery. Now and again there are events on the village green, good walks abound on footpaths from the village and, further afield, find Castle Combe, Bradford-on-Avon or Westonbirt Arboretum to explore.
Local points of interest from Jack Nicholas
- The Angel Garden - enjoy our cottage garden with traditional English apple trees and a calming stream.
- National Trust's Lacock Abbey - the Country house with monastic roots, once home to William Henry Fox Talbot inventor of photography. You can stroll the woodlands grounds and botanical garden for hours!
- Bath - modern day Bath is independent, creative, unique and stylish, and is the only place in the UK where you can bathe in naturally hot spa water. The city has architecture so beautiful and special that is a designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.
- Cotswolds - rich unique history, culture and the natural beauty of ancient limestone villages, rolling wolds countryside, beautiful gardens and magnificent historic castles and stately homes.
- Walking - go on an amble around the wonderful countryside and breath in the fresh air!
- Other lovely villages & towns in the area: Bradford-on-Avon, Corsham, Castle Combe...each have their own quirky English character!

Introducing
Jack Nicholas
The Sign of the Angel is run by a local farming family. You are well looked after by Darren, Bonnie, chef Dan and a friendly well-trained team of staff.
Always a pleasure to visit Lacock and The Sign of the Angel. It's a very special place for history lovers and anybody with an interest in architecture. Also a comfortable place to stay with good walking footpaths from the village and a lovely garden to sit out in - perhaps with some scones and clotted cream. You can bring your dog too!
