The Experience

The house exudes a homely, family-friendly feel with good art on the walls, lovely furniture, bold colours and masses of space for everyone to spread out and relax. Designated chef will be happy in the super kitchen, a sociable hub, where everyone can pitch in or hang around and chat. You’ll eat in the flag stoned dining room which opens onto the garden terrace – a lovely spot for barbecues on warm evenings.

Grown-ups get their own sitting room for aperitifs in front of the open fire, record player on, while the kids get the bigger more relaxed sitting room which happens to have the best garden view for morning coffee. Spill outside to tumble on the lawn, play netball and table tennis, picnic in the meadow, watch swallows swoop and gaze at spectacular sunsets.

Walk from the door through hills and valleys, cycle into Devizes, try Rick Stein’s bistro in Marlborough. Return to sleep in gorgeous bedrooms. Teens get the attic.

Reviews

This house is fabulous, the rooms are huge and very comfortable. The decor is so tasteful the owner clearly has an eye for beautiful things. The house is also very well equipped. The garden is large and attractive too. You are also only 10 minutes from the shops. We will be back!

Annabel, London

Beautiful luxurious home, both sophisticated and elegant as well as comfortable and homely. With everything we could need and lovely walks around, also great farm shop down the road. A real pleasure to stay.

Clea, London

The perfect house for get-togethers with family or friends and oodles of space inside and out. Teenagers can lurk in the attic away from their parents, younger children can charge outdoors for big lawns, football, netball and table tennis, cooks will be very happy in the kitchen and those who seek a bit of peace of quiet can find lots of hidden spots to creep off to.

Location

The neighbourhood

The village has a cafe and farm shop, The Piggery, for coffee and cake or to buy veg and meat, and a pub for a pint and a packet of crisps. The Swan in Devizes, 10 mins, is excellent. Marlborough, 20 mins, has a clutch of independent shops, the Parade Cinema and a Waitrose. Walk along the tow path, look for the White Horse, climb up to Wansdyke ridge. Avebury stone circle is 25 mins.

Local points of interest from Juno Shears

  • The Cherhill White Horse is the second oldest in Wiltshire, and just a 15min drive. From this spot above the horse, you get breathtaking views over the beautiful countryside.
  • Bowood House host great events during the summer months, such as outdoor concerts, Giffords Circus and outdoor cinema nights. There is also a golf course, spa and a great kids adventure playground.
  • An impressive set of 29 locks cross the canal one after the other between Rowde and Devizes on the Kennet and Avon Canal. Go for a walk and stop by The George and Dragon pub in Rowde which serves great food.
  • National Trust managed Lacock Village is accessible to all and includes the Abbey. Visit several Harry Potter film locations in the village including Harrys parents house.
  • Avebury stone circle is close and a wonderful site.. Or if you venture to Stonehenge, after seeing the stones and absorbing all that history, get an amazing meal at the Michelin Starred pub The Red Lion Freehouse in the Pewsey Vale.
  • Oliver's Castle is an Iron Age hill fort with awe-inspiring views across the plain over Devizes and beyond. You can take wonderful walks along the Roundway and through the woods.
