The Experience

Ninety minutes from London, a timber-clad barn next to the ancient cottage where the owners live. With a tipi in the long grass for kids and several sofa beds there’s tons of potential for friends and family to pile in. The owners and other guests are around but will leave you to your own devices. Enter to find a wonderful kitchen (scrubbed table, polished concrete floor), a lobby flooded with light, walls vibrant blue, and a Cuban bedroom with turquoise shutters.

Up the steep spiral stair is a playroom – pool table, pull-down projector for film nights, graffiti wall (be open-minded!) and a variety of beds, perfect for older children and teenagers. The second double is up here too, its doors opening to a balcony for breakfast, and a view of the meadow beyond. History lovers will want to find out more about the Roman kiln discovered here.

You can stride out to pubs; cycle to the water park; drink cocktails in the wild garden, get back to nature.

You should know

  • It's rather haphazard and rustic outdoors and won't suit those who like things being shipshape and Bristol fashion
  • It will be very dark at night so bring torches if you want to wander about outside

Reviews

Staying in the long barn at Brandiers is like home from home for me & my family. We come as often as we can. Even our cat Chessie knows where he is when we’re driving up the country lane. His ears prick up and his nose is pressed to the window in anticipation. It’s a great place to stay because you know you’re going to be super comfortable, get a good night sleep and wake up to the sound of nature which is priceless. It’s a beautiful place and the hosts couldn’t be more accommodating. We’ll keep going back again and again.

We booked the Annexe as our friends were staying in the Longbarn and we needed an extra room. It was brilliant! Every detail was really thought through, the design was gorgeous and the beds cosy. There was also space for the kids to sleep up on the mezzanine (which they found incredibly exciting). Brandiers is a really special place.

Come for long walks in lovely countryside, villages to explore and history to discover. Return to a very comfortable and informal space with kind, generous owners next door. Don't forget to search the hedgerows for fragments of Roman pots (ask Kimberly).

We have just spent a wonderful 5 nights at Brandiers Long Barn and had to say how lovely our stay was. Kimberly and Peter, and their son Oliver, too, made us incredibly welcome at their beautiful barn. The barn is full of art work and furniture that's unique to them and full of story and intrigue and very much suits those with an appreciation of art, Bohemia and a free spirit. The location is fantastic for the water park and for both Cotswold and Wiltshire pubs, villages and towns. Looking back on this week will feel like a dream: a lovely dream that we look forward to reliving again!

Gina

We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Super stylish and relaxing interior and the family were so helpful and friendly. If it wasn’t so booked we would have stayed longer, looking forward to returning and perhaps staying in one the the new developments and taking part in the pottery or photography courses.

Sasha

The accommodation is fantastic and a must visit! A beautiful modern barn filled with very lovely furniture and great pieces of artwork to admire. The beds are very comfortable and it’s surrounded by lovely countryside. There is a lovely dog who loves a game of fetch. Would definitely recommend!

Emily

What a beautiful farm and surrounding area! The hosts are very warm and helpful. Had the most relaxing stay! I will absolutely stay again, the air is so fresh and the water is delicious many thanks, Bev, Maddie & Winnie the pug xxx

Brandiers is a perfect place to stay if you are looking for a cosy place with a touch of creative, bohemian charm in the Cotswold countryside, with warm and friendly hosts. The grounds, the tennis court and incredible walks on the doorstep made our stay extra special. We were so enamoured by the tranquillity, down to earth beauty and atmosphere that it has given us something to aspire to. We would both return at the drop of a hat.

Just back from 5 nights at this magical spot. Surrounded by wildlife (saw deer, pheasant, duck, dragonflies and rabbits on our dog walks) Brandeers Barn is a beautiful spacious place to stay in gorgeous gardens. Kimberley and her husband Peter are wonderful hosts (along with Gertie the dog!). Our kids loved messing around on the boat in the pond and there are lovely walks right from your door. There are also lots of activities and places to visit within a short drive. Arrived back yesterday very relaxed and rested. Highly recommended.

Marguerite

We had a wonderful stay, Kimberly couldn't do enough for us. Our stay was filled with wonderful little touches. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, but we also had the privacy we hoped for from our wild, rustic hideaway. Stunning countryside abounds, we already can't wait to come and stay again. If you are looking for a little artistic inspiration, or a different pace of life, I highly recommend you stay.

Tom

Undeniably special. It’s just one big bohemian hang out. Really relaxed and open, lovely chilled out owners, inspiring art and furniture abounds, a romantic walled garden to wander in, woods for kids to romp about in - totally untamed in every way!

Location

The neighbourhood

There's much to do on site but you can head out to rolling countryside dotted with limestone villages for antiques, delis and farm shops. The Cotswold Water Park is a five-minute drive for swimming and sailing. You can hire bikes here and take a leisurely pedal along the tow paths of the canals, or visit stately homes and castles. Westonbirt is close and fabulous anytime but autumn is best.
