The Experience

Bowl down the tree-lined drive to discover this magical place basking in 450 acres of farmland. Wander the gardens freely, designed by highly regarded Isabel and Julian Bannerman. There’s a faux-monastic feel to the Georgian architecture with a ruin here, archways there, a lake with thatched boathouse, water features and grottos.

Climb stone steps to the Orangery, which is clad in many roses and Magnolia grandiflora with a parterre of clipped box, topiary, citrus in huge pots. The interior, flooded with light from a vaulted glass ceiling and French windows, has underheated floors, a sitting room at one end and a long table for 12. After a hearty walk, unbend in your own wood-burning sauna.

Bedrooms with four-posters and en suite bathrooms are at either end of the building; a small kitchen has all you need and you can hire a chef, or walk along footpaths to the village. There’s a tennis court, a lake and a generous feel all round.

Reviews

If you adore gardens, particularly ones designed by Isabel and Julian Bannerman, then you'll be hard put not to want to stay in The Orangery. It's extraordinary. Great place to hold a dinner party for special (local) friends, light candles, feel lucky.

Location

The neighbourhood

Euridge tucks into the landscape with views to Colerne church. Here you'll find a post office selling most things and a bakery. The Walled Garden restaurant at Lucknam Park is a treat for special occasions. You can play golf at nearby Castle Combe, visit Lacock, Westonbirt Arboretum, Corsham and Tetbury (great antique shops) or head to Bath (30 mins for theatre, abbey, some good independent shops).

Local points of interest from Euridge

  • The Orangery is nestled in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the outskirts of Colerne, Wiltshire.
  • The area offers a perfect blend of rural tranquility and easy access to some of England’s most iconic attractions.
  • The nearby Salisbury Plain, with its expansive views and open skies, is a perfect spot for hiking and wildlife spotting.
  • Wiltshire is steeped in history, and no visit would be complete without a trip to the world-famous Stonehenge, just a short drive from The Orangery.
  • Further afield, the medieval city of Salisbury is well worth a visit. Its magnificent cathedral, home to the tallest spire in England and one of the best-preserved copies of the Magna Carta, is a must-see.
  • The Orangery is the perfect base for families and friends looking to explore the Cotswolds and Wiltshire!
