The Experience
The living/dining room has a modern, uncluttered feel with a wood-burner, comfy chairs and plenty of books and games – it’s well thought-out inside with plenty of room for four. Both bedrooms are simply furnished and spacious, the master with a four-poster and doors onto a Juliet balcony with soaring views over the Downs; the other can be a twin or double.
The kitchen has plenty of prep space and all you need to whip up a feast, but if you want to spoil yourselves while you’re on holiday you can just nip next door for a delicious breakfast – smoked South Downs back bacon and a fried Burford Brown egg on sourdough toast, Loch Fyne smoked salmon, shakshuka, porridge with wildflower honey. The Flint Barns Dining room is open all year round and the locally-grown or sourced food is very good, not to mention their own Sussex Sparkling wines.
Join the South Downs Way from the door for wonderful walks.

Location
The neighbourhood
It's a grand spot for walkers but there is much else to do besides. Alfriston, a mile away, has hotels, pubs and cafés. The Cricketers Arms in Berwick and the Sussex Ox in Polegate (about three miles) both serve excellent food. It's seven miles to the Seven Sisters Country Park, 12 miles to Eastbourne and 19 miles to Brighton. Glyndebourne is 10 miles, and pretty Lewes with its interesting shops 12.
Local points of interest from Rathfinny Wine Estate
- Tours and wine tastings are available every week, all year round. Learn about the history of the Rathfinny Wine Estate and see behind-the-scenes of our state of the art winery, followed by a Sussex wine tasting.
- You don't have to travel far for excellent food and wine during your stay. Our Estate is home to two restaurants including the Michelin-recommended Tasting Room, cosy Flint Barns Dining Room and al-fresco wine bar, The Hut.
- It’s a short walk up the valley to join the South Downs Way. A long distance footpath and bridleway running along the South Downs in southern England, and is one of 15 National Trails in England and Wales.
- Cuckmere Valley is a haven for wildlife, from over-wintering wildfowl to colourful wild flowers. Cradle Valley is a wonderful example of the species-rich chalk grassland. This habitat attracts rare and colourful butterflies and plants in summer.
- Alfriston village is consistently named one of the best and most prettiest villages in the UK. The quaint historic high street is home to independent shops, galleries and pubs and within walking distance of the Alfriston Clergy House & Garden.
- We are very lucky to have so many places to visit. Seven Sisters Country Park, Charleston Farmhouse, Glyndebourne, Towner Gallery, Michelham Priory, Newhaven Fort and Lewes Castle are all within easy reach.
