The Experience
After a visit to Petworth House, head to the sleepy village of Tillington and this pub on the park’s western edge. The lovely All Hallows church with its unusual spire is opposite and views sweep towards the South Downs from the leafy garden; a sunny spot for lunch or an evening gin and tonic.
Inside there’s a series of rambling rooms furnished with quirky pieces, fresh flowers, wonky beams and old pine tables in front of log fires. Sam and Misha love this pub: they’ve created a real community feel and their passion is reflected in their championing of local producers and imaginative menus, including veg from their patch and good stuff foraged from the local hedgerows. Bread is baked daily and they sell eggs from their own chickens – the closest shop is in nearby Petworth (a mile’s walk along the park).
Each of the three bedrooms is characterful with a sleek bathroom. Two are upstairs in the pub, one is in an adjacent ‘one-up, one-down’ cottage. Wake to a breakfast feast.

An unscheduled and very brief visit but a very warm welcome to this delightful inn in the heart of the Sussex countryside and next to the splendid Petworth deer park. Come and sample the menu and enjoy the imaginatively decorated dining rooms. It is obvious to the visitor that the owners care a lot about their pub, their food and their rooms which are all up to a very high standard.

We couldn't get a room because they were fully booked for a wedding but accommodated us for dinner. We tried to book three months in advance. We were given a superb table for dinner - the food, wine, ambiance, service were first class. I am in the hospitality business so am familiar with food and beverage and superb service with a smile and wanting to make the customer happy. I would travel to the Petworth area again just to have dinner and hopefully they will have room to accommodate me. I can't wait.

I stayed for 2 nights with my fiancée in this fantastic pub. The room was comfy and the whole pub itself was so welcoming and cosy, with fires in every room, and despite being quite a small building you could always find a quiet corner. The staff were all so friendly and you could see they were really proud of the place. The food is a must, everything (within reason) is locally sourced and is really excellent, if you're staying over the breakfast is also really lovely. I can't recommend this spot highly enough and we will be back.

A perfect location for a memorable weekend - or longer - getaway from it all. Mine hosts - Misha and Sam - were totally on their respective game, and the six nights we stayed at the Inn for my nephew's wedding in nearby Storrington were darling. In addition to the sumptuous breakfasts, we dined in the venue several times, and couldn’t have done better at a four-star restaurant in London. The locally-sourced produce in outstanding. We will return soon!

Introducing
Sam & Misha Beard
Sam and Misha are passionate about running a really good pub and they pull it off with aplomb. The feel is welcoming and homely, the decor is imaginative and the food is spot on - perfect for locals and visitors.
It was three months ago that we ate and slept here, and I keep thinking about how perfect our two-night stay was. The pub garden is a heaven on earth, and the food is unfussy and delicious. The whole cozy place is elegantly understated, but every detail has been attended to, down to the soft pink blankets on the outdoor daybeds. If I didn't live so far away, I'd become a regular.
