The Experience
In the heart of Climping village, the striking 17th-century building has its original layout but with a vaulted green oak extension and seven pretty bedrooms. The lively informal bar area is a grand spot to check out the menu and enjoy a pint of Harvey’s Sussex Bitter or Black Horse IPA. Food is delicious, seasonal and as local as possible, with a good mix of pub classics and more interesting main dishes, plus specials on a chalk board.
You sleep upstairs in attractive bedrooms with fresh bathrooms, beautiful wallpapers inspired by nature and designed by a local artist and filled with locally sourced antique furniture. Two have rooftop balconies with seating and views across fields. You’re just a short walk from the beach and their sister hotel Bailiffscourt where you can pop in for a drink, lunch or dinner. They have a pool so why not book in for a spa day?
The rear terrace is a quiet, tucked-away sun trap, just perfect for a sundowner or an al fresco supper.

Location
The neighbourhood
There are peaceful walks and cycles from the door and the South Downs Way can be joined easily for wonderful woodlands and rolling farmland filled with birdlife. Visit Petworth House, Arundel Wetland Centre or Arundel Castle with its beautiful gardens. Fishbourne Roman Palace will keep history lovers happy and at Chichester you can enjoy theatre or take a boat trip around the harbour.
Historic Sussex Hotels have breathed new life into this village local following serious investment in 2023, with the addition of a vaulted dining room and seven upstairs bedrooms, two with balconies and views across fields. You can peruse the papers with a pint by the fire in the characterful bar area, tuck into some good pub food, and stay with the dog – Climping beach is just down the lane.
