The Experience

Breakfast in a light-filled, chinoiserie dining room – there’s an effortless elegance to this manor house, once home to one of King Charles’s Cavaliers. Bedrooms are atmospheric, one in French style. The treats continue outside with a beautiful flower garden annually replenished with 5,000 tulips, a lake and orchard, a swimming pool and a tennis court – fabulous. Dine under the pergola in summer: food is a passion and Sarah’s menus are adventurous with a modern slant. Glyndebourne is close so make a party of it and take a divine ‘pink’ hamper, with blankets or a table and chairs included.

Reviews

Home from home…. Oh my! We would love this to be our home every day. The sumptuous sofas, the candle-lit dinner (amazing food) and the roaring fire in the drawing room made this a perfect stay - and, of course, the very talented Sarah had considered every aspect of our needs, including a fresh round of sandwiches ready upon arrival for one of our weary guests who appeared at Old Whyly way past bedtime. A return stay is a must!

Sarah and her team made us feel at home instantly. Old Whyly is a real treasure, oozing charm and elegance in beautiful peaceful surroundings. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend dining there, you won't be disappointed.

The Old Whyly is an absolutely lovely place. Very secretly and silently placed off the big roads with an amazing garden (or almost park) around it. Sarah is a fantastic host, always helpful and a great cook, both, for outstanding picknick to enjoy the Glyndebourne festival experience, and for dinners at the Old Whyly. A nice served breakfast comes on top. We are sure to return. Actually, we might consider a visit off season, maybe in the Winter. It will be enjoyably tranquil.

I recently had the pleasure to stay at Old Whyly and I just can say it was one of the most marvellous stays I ever had. From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by the owner Sarah, whose genuine care and hospitality made my stay truly unforgettable. The Georgian Manor house itself is charming, well-maintained and offers all the comforts one could ask for. The rooms are cozy, spotlessly clean, and thoughtfully decorated, creating a homey atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease. The location is perfect; even the best in South England - peaceful, serene and with a touch of royality.

We stayed for 3 nights at Old Whyly. What a wonderful experience - beautiful and historic property, comfortable and lovely accommodations, and wonderful food. Sarah made us feel right at home - the outside of the property and her gardens are beautiful. The location was quiet, but SO accessible to all the local places in Sussex we wanted to see. And, we had the extra treat of meeting Sarah's delightful little dog Minnie (a real sweetheart). Highly recommend and hope to visit again soon.

Anne, Amherst

We loved our stay at Old Whyly. Sarah is a very gracious host and good fun as well! The house and garden are beautiful, the food delicious and we felt totally at home. We would highly recommend as a place to stay and would love to return ourselves one day.

Rosemary, Adelaide

An absolute oasis. Sarah made us feel very at home. As well as breakfast we chose to have supper and what a treat. Prepared and cooked by our host it was devine and scrumptious. The gardens and grounds are stunning. Full of interest, beauty and peace. Wildlife spotting too!

Pamela, Farnham

We have stayed several times at Old Whyly. We could not praise it more highly. The house is delightful and surrounded by wonderful gardens. It is a very peaceful location. We relax there the moment we arrive. Sarah is the perfect host and a very talented cook. Booking ahead particularly during the Glyndebourne is to be recommended.

My partner and I spent two nights at this charming house set in it's own well kept grounds. The welcome we received from Sarah was warm and very friendly and our room was spacious and furnished with all that was required for a most comfortable and relaxed stay. We enjoyed our pre-dinner gin and tonics in the well furnished lounge prior to enjoying our evening meal in the candle lit dinning room which, along with our breakfasts, were prepared by our host to a high standard. This is certainly a property I would visit again just to totally relax and enjoy the peace and quiet offered.

Michael, Folkestone

What a delightful place. The welcome could not be warmer, the cake could not be fresher and the ambience could not be more relaxing. Sarah is a wonderful host, and fabulous cook and Leah the housekeeper is marvellous too. We will certainly be returning.

Staying at Old Whyly was special and memorable. The elegant Georgian simplicity and its spaciousness create a sense of calm, enhanced by the beautiful antique furniture so right for the building. The location, surrounded by lawns and woodland with spring bulbs, is quiet and so pleasing both on the eye and for a gentle stroll. Sarah, helped by Lia, made us the most delicious and attractive meals, and the wine list included some from a local vineyard. We found just two nights stay extremely therapeutic, especially sitting in the elegant drawing room beside a roaring log fire!

Mary, London UK

We had a warm welcome from Sarah, our host. It was a cold day so we were very pleased to accept her offer of tea and homemade cake in front of a lovely log fire in the comfortable and spacious sitting room. Sarah is an excellent cook, passionate about food, and served us a delicious dinner in the elegant dining room at 7.30pm. We were the only guests that evening, but not left alone as Sarah came to chat with us when we had coffee in the sitting room after the meal. Breakfast the next morning was equally delicious, and before we left we were given a tour of the impressive garden.

Angela, Reading

Staying in this beautiful house was an absolute pleasure. It really is comfortable and we were given a great welcome by Sarah and her team. The garden is outstanding. We were cooked a particularly delicious breakfast and we have already booked to return soon. Highly recommended.

A friend & I were shooting in the area of this lovely house and needed an overnight stay with both B&B plus supper. On arrival I was greeted by Sarah and her housekeeper with a welcoming pot of tea and some cake near a roaring and warming fire. After a hot shower, a splendid dinner with wine was served in the dining room after which we retired to the drawing room for a very pleasant digestif . Following a sound sleep a hearty breakfast beckoned, which set us up for the day's shooting ahead! Thank you Sarah and housekeeper for a lovely, comfortable stay with you. We would come again!

Peter, London

We had a lovely 4 day break at Old Whyly, and enjoyed Sarah's warm hospitality and the comforts of the beautiful house. The house is well-situated for walks on the Downs and for swimming in the sea at Eastbourne, as well as easy access to any number of fine places to visit.

Bronwen, LONDON

Lovely house & setting & very welcoming atmosphere. Sarah is a wonderful host & cook. We enjoyed our stay very much. Our bedroom was beautifully furnished & the large bed was very comfortable. We had a bijou en suite bathroom with a great shower. The breakfast was delicious & it felt as though nothing was too much trouble. The gardens are stunning. Puzzle Sarah's dog is a delight & very friendly and help make the lovely house into a real home.
