The Experience

This is a grand spot for gatherings of family or friends. Downstairs is open plan but with clearly designated living, dining and TV-watching areas – including a separate snooker room. A very well-equipped kitchen is big enough for everybody to join in and help, with a lovely large island for those who want to sit and chat, a big American fridge and a dining area separated by a dual sided wood-burner. Underfloor heating powered by an air source heat pump will keep you cosy.

Big bifold doors at either end lead out to the secluded courtyard or the smart landscaped gardens. On sunny days you can fling them both open and float seamlessly from outdoors to in, light the gas barbecue, feel very much on holiday. Bedrooms (two downstairs, two on the first floor and two on the second) all have sumptuous beds and en suite bathrooms.

You are left local cheese, bread, eggs, crisps and cider. Stride out into untrammelled countryside.

We think you'll love

  • The swish interiors, the light flooding in through the big doors and all the space
  • Lighting the wood-burner, cooking in the kitchen, settling in to watch a film on the big screen if the weather isn't good

Reviews

This is one of three medieval barns on a large estate which have been painstakingly converted into luxury holiday lets. No detail has been spared in providing the most elegant and chic decor to suit the majesty of the ancient buildings.

Location

The neighbourhood

This feels gloriously remote and the walking is sublime but you are near to lots of villages and towns. Eye is an eight-minute drive for shops, restaurants and cafés, or you can head to the coast and pretty Aldeburgh in less than an hour. Snape Maltings is close and you can eat well and buy wonderful wines from Wyken Vineyards, or visit Pakenham Water Mill, the oldest surviving flour mill in Suffolk.

Local points of interest from Jo West

  • Six ensuite bedrooms, distinctive in terms of décor but identical in terms of appeal, make this beautifully-preserved mid-16th-century timber-framed structure ideal for several couples to visit, especially if they’re of varied ages.
  • Named after two brothers who spent over a century between them driving produce around the estate.
  • A terrace, sheltered court-yard and well-kempt lawns scored by gravel walkways comprise an equally charming outdoor space.
  • Walk 2 minutes to our local pub, The Oaksmere.
  • Combine our other properties to accommodate larger groups and wedding parties.
  • Hire our hot tub or bicycles at an extra fee.
