The Experience
Set in three river valleys – Box, Brett and Stour – this is the countryside that Constable made famous. Bring bikes and set off (it’s fairly easy peddling) on the South Suffolk cycle route to stunning Lavenham for great shops and restaurants. Stock up at the twice-weekly market or stride the old railway line.
The welcome hamper in the cottage is bountiful and includes everything you need for your first two hiker’s breakfasts and all the basics like milk, bread, butter and fruit. You’ll feel nicely private too with your own west-facing garden for al fresco suppers overlooking the orchard, peaceful sunsets and star-studded night skies.
Day trips could involve the most beautiful medieval churches, Kentwell Hall and Gardens, Beth Chatto Gardens or Framlingham Castle. Return to an open roaring fire (logs provided) and much comfort.

Location
The neighbourhood
It's quiet down here. You can walk along a footpath to the church in one direction and the White Horse pub in the other - take your pick, but the pub is also a micro-brewery and a member of CAMRA so ale lovers won't hesitate. Long Melford, just over six miles away, has a wonderful example of a medieval Suffolk church, Dedham is 13 miles and you can row a boat to Constable's Flatford Mill.
Local points of interest from Mark Scott
- Tiny lanes to cycle along using the Grove Cottage's bikes.
- Within a few minutes of the River Stour immortalised by John Constable.
- The medieval villages of Lavenham, Long Melford, where Lovejoy was filmed, and Kersey are all nearby.
- The rambling farm buildings are surrounded by Orchard Gardens, one being about an acre and ideal as a dog exercise area.
- Great days out exploring the Suffolk Coastline, which starts from 40 minutes away.
- We may be just 90 minutes from London but visitors feel it is a million miles away as they explore the tiny lanes meandering round to the lovely Medieval Villages in a truly Rural area
