The Experience

The space isn’t huge, but it is elegantly proportioned. Large sash windows allow the light to pour in, pale colours give an airy feel and there are pleasing details like polished antique brass fittings, cast-iron radiators, exquisite lighting and some good original art. The sitting room has a comfy sofa and a pleasing view over the street, the kitchen has plenty of gear and prep space with a separate eating area and you’re left some wine.

Two bedrooms (one slightly smaller) have inviting beds and pretty throws, the shared bathroom has a bath and shower and all is very light and chic. It’s fairly peaceful too, as the road is one-way – mostly you’ll just hear pedestrians.

Walk to the best pub in town, the Old Mariner, or to a host of cafés, independent shops and bars. Watch boats in the harbour, explore the Anglo-Saxon site of Sutton Hoo, the working Tide Mill or head off on gentle walks along the River Deben. It’s a grand spot.

Reviews

Woodbridge has become fashionable because of its setting and its unspoiled little streets and houses, and this property is discreetly situated right in its heart. In addition to the beauty of the River Deben and its walks, there are facilities of every sort within a couple of hundred yards' radius, and it would be possible to eat somewhere different every night of the week.

Location

The neighbourhood

Woodbridge is a lively place. A pedestrianised upmarket shopping centre has fashion shops, jewellers, bookshops, an award-winning bakery and a great café. To one side is the Market Hill with pubs, shops, hotel and museum, and on the other is the river, with a profusion of bars and restaurants, a cinema, a pretty railway station and the workshop building a replica of Sutton Hoo.

Local points of interest from Jodie Pinney

  • Popping out to Magpies bakery for a loaf of freshly baked sourdough bread in the mornings. (On your doorstep)
  • A trip to Pinch, a little off the beaten track but well worth it for one of their delicious crullers! (20 min drive)
  • A drive out to Orford to visit Pump Street for a hot chocolate and a walk along the river wall, followed by a fishy feast at the Butley Orford oysterage. (15 min drive)
  • A stroll around Woodbridge visiting all the lovely independent shops along the way. My favourites are Vanil and Pocket! Enjoying a visit to your local pub The Mariners for a pint of Adnams from the local brewery.
  • A walk along the beautiful beach at Covehithe looking for sea glass. (45 min drive)
  • Heading out for your morning walk along the River Deben and grabbing a coffee on the way. (on your doorstep)
