The Experience
The pub sits on one side of the village green, with a terrace at the front, a garden at the back and a courtyard in between – a real treat on balmy summer days. Inside is just as good with flagstones and armchairs in front of the fire, painted panelling in the restaurant and lovely fresh flower arrangements throughout.
Food has a good reputation here with only quality local produce used for some pub classics and more sophisticated dishes with a small specials board. Breakfast is served in the bar/lounge at separate tables overlooking the green – eggs come from a local supplier.
Bedrooms, seven upstairs and two in a ground-floor annexe, come in restful colours with snowy cotton and karate-chopped cushions; bathrooms gleam with 100 Acres soaps and lotions. Good walks through stunning countryside start from the door.

Location
The neighbourhood
It's a sleepy little village sitting on the north bank of the river Yeo. Holy Trinity Church, built in 1493, has a wonderful carved and painted pulpit. The marvellous murmurations can be seen from October to February at the RSPB reserve just up the road. Visit Wells for the cathedral and a good market.

Introducing
Philip & Sheila Mepham
Philip has been at the helm here since he took it over and renovated it many years ago. Both he and his wife Sheila have a background in hospitality and hotels. You're looked after by a friendly, efficient team.
A lovely, welcoming country-chic pub/restaurant with rooms. Lovely sumptuous decor in keeping with its surroundings, beautiful tiered outdoor space and a short seasonal menu bode well for a smart pub meal or lingering over a drink – and smart period-style bedrooms with modern touches, crisp white linens and spacious showers would make an overnight stay no hardship!
