The Experience
The front door leads into the open-plan kitchen, then a spacious sitting room with a homely mix of comfy chairs and sofa, antique furniture, a big wood-burner and many artefacts from the owner’s travels: hand-painted furniture from India, glass and porcelain from Morocco. Lots of windows give a light and airy feel and you eat at a round wooden table gazing at much greenery.
Two peaceful bedrooms, one with a king size bed and floor-to-ceiling windows, the other a sweet single, are up a spiral staircase and share a spotless old-fashioned bathroom with wood panelling and a proper bath – lovely to soak in after a long day of walking. The garden is enclosed and surrounded by trees and shrubs full of bouncing birds – lazing out here on a steamer chair listening to nought but sheep will be restorative.
The square kitchen is roomy for cooks and has all the kit you’ll need but you can walk to an award-winning pub in under a mile.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're next to a farm and surrounded by pastureland with many footpaths. As well as the Cotley Inn for outstanding food, Wambrook has an interesting church with a 13th-century font and a south wall from the 15th century. The nearest town is Chard, 1.5 miles, for supermarkets and independent food shops. Barleymows Farm Shop has a café and sells plants and flowers alongside lovely local food.
Local points of interest from Mary
- Visit stunning Forde Abbey and gardens and other houses and gardens in the area: Montacute, Barrington Court, Hestercombe , East Lambrook Manor and Rosemoor are all close by.
- Half an hour from The Jurassic Coast. Climb up to Golden Point and then drop down for a well-earned pint and excellent menus created from local produce at The Anchor in Seatown.
- Lyme Regis, 14 miles. Search for huge ammonites on Monmouth Beach, walk from Lyme to Seaton along the Undercliff, swim, paddleboard or enjoy the Jazz Festival, Fossil Festival or Life-boat week in Lyme itself.
- The Cotley Inn in Wambrook is only a 15-minute walk and offers excellent food. 30 min drive to the Somerset levels for the famous family-run Brown & Forest Smokery and award winning restaurant (and suppliers to Fortnum & Mason).
- Wells, the smallest city in Britain is only an hours drive away. Enjoy wandering around the magnificent cathedral and bishops palace with its beautiful gardens, or taking a walk around the moat.

Introducing
Mary
Mary lives across the drive and is very welcoming and knowledgeable. She has just returned to the UK after living in France for several years. She is a decorative artist specialising in ceramics and has previously worked in the arts including film and opera.
A beautiful cosy barn in picturesque countryside but not far from facilities in the local town. A wonderful fusion of East meets West in terms of furnishings and furniture. It's a fantastic place to either walk for miles or snuggle up with a book in front of the wood-burner when the weather isn't great! Either way you will have a memorable time.
