The Experience
David and Rosie are relaxed hosts and everything slows down the moment you open the gate. If you enjoy your own space, spread out in the annexe with a wet room or find upstairs bedrooms white and fresh with lavender and Rosie’s paintings. Breakfast in the neat cottage dining room or al fresco: honey from the bees plus anything you ask for, David might go foraging or catch a trout for supper; bring your own wine and wander the garden with a glass – masses of colour, rare trees, ample veg patch where five types of tomato grow! Cider tasting is just up the road, Barrington Court and market town Ilminster are close.

We stayed in the annex room with its own private entrance, which was stunning with a great wet room and private garden courtyard. The hosts David and Rosie were warm, welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was great, all local produce. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone. David & Rosie are an absolutely delightful couple who take an extraordinary amount of pride, energy and enthusiasm to deliver a very warm welcome in their excellent accommodation, serve delicious breakfasts with locally sourced products and then generously invite you to enjoy and relax in their very interesting garden. David & Rosie are accomplished and inventive gardeners. David is an excellent chef and Rosie is a very talented working artist from her garden studio and an excellent chef too. Their pretty hens and elderly ducks are a tranquil delight too.

We arrived after a long journey to a tranquil and beautiful location and a warm welcome. Thank you David and Rosemary for a perfect stop and a peaceful night's sleep. Fresh flowers; scent, inside and outside! We woke the following morning refreshed and ready for the final leg of our drive South West. This is a hidden gem and a place to return to! A delicious breakfast with the company of chickens outside, a few inquisitive Geese and a view of the garden and Somerset beyond. Make a point of stopping here and enjoy the beauty and excellent hospitality.

We had a very comfortable and enjoyable week at Brewer's Cottage. The food was all lovely and much of it home produced. Our meal cooked by David and Rosie on the first night was excellent. The house and garden were very peaceful and we enjoyed our tours round the latter which contains much of interest. Must mention the chickens, ducks and rabbits. The area is really worth exploring - it was a mass of Spring flowers.

We were made very welcome by Rosie and David into their beautiful home and garden, where we stayed in the annex which was very well equipped and comfortable, welcomed each morning by chickens and ducks which roamed the garden. An unforgettable stay which was further enhanced by a superb meal cooked by David on the final evening. Couldn’t want for anything more.

We enjoyed an excellent stay at Brewer's Cottage. The accommodation in the annex was spacious & comfortable. David & Rosie were great hosts, friendly & welcoming - lots of interesting conversations! Breakfasts & dinner were superb, the latter being far better than any restaurant meal we've had in a long time. The garden was beautiful with the added attraction of some fine ducks & chickens, plus one errant homing pigeon!

From the moment we arrived at this rural accommodation, ( staying in The Annexe of Brewers Cottage ) we knew it to be a very good choice. The accommodation was more than adequate and within a few steps of our own terrace garden and also the breakfast room ; lovely meals with locally sourced produce. Would highly recommend.

This was our first visit to Brewers Cottage and not our last! David & Rosie were welcoming and charming hosts. We were treated more like old friends rather than guests and that set the tone for a wonderful few days during which we were treated to an exquisite dinner on our first evening followed by delicious cooked breakfasts thereafter. David has a passion for good food and this was reflected in the meals we enjoyed during our stay. The garden was an oasis of beauty, tended by Rosie and was absolutely stunning. We were encouraged to roam as freely as we wished. So a huge thank you from us!

Our recent idyllic stay with David and Rosie was everything we could have wished ... and more. They are truly kind hosts and adept at dealing with requirements to ensure a safe stay, including a private garden space for The Annexe. We loved its stylish, immaculate decor, comfortable bed, efficient shower and divine crisp linens. Dinner and breakfast were both totally delicious. The whole experience was beyond our expectations. We wish Rosie and David well and very much hope to return.

I can only concur with other recent reviewers: this is a delightful place to stay on all counts. The cottage itself is charming, with a large and delightful garden, the location is extremely tranquil, the owners are friendly, welcoming and very informative about the area and David's cooking is simply superb. Dinner easily surpassed the quality of most restaurants and breakfast was similarly excellent, with extensive use of their garden produce, including eggs, vegetables and honey. Outstanding.

This was our second visit to Brewers Cottage and we thoroughly enjoyed the 3 nights in the annexe. David cooked for us 2 evenings and his meals were among the the best we’ve ever had. It’s worth staying with Rosie and David for the dinners alone! They made us feel very comfortable and secure in their precautions against COVID- couldn’t be faulted. Thank you again.

We were a group of 6 (3 family-related couples) staying for the weekend at Brewers Cottage. David and Rosie were delightful, helpful hosts. They provided us with a warm welcome and an extremely comfortable stay. We booked to have an evening meal there on our first night. Our chosen dishes were all superb; five stars for presentation, quality and taste. We ate out the following evening at a ‘Good Food Guide’ recommended restaurant in the area - all 6 of us agreed that the previous evening’s meal at Brewers Cottage was far superior. Thank-you David and Rosie, a very special house and garden.

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from David & Rosie Darrah
- We are in the heart of rural Somerset, on the edge of a quiet hamlet, close to the Levels. While we are off the beaten track, we are close to many historic market towns and villages and are surrounded by miles and miles of wonderful countryside to explore.
- The National Trust opens houses and gardens all over Somerset; Barrington Court, Montacute House, Lytes Cary Manor and Tintinhull House to name just a few,. There are also other lovely gardens to visit at Hestercombe, Forde Abbey and East Lambrook Manor.
- For walkers, cyclists and nature lovers this part of Somerset is a slice of heaven. The surrounding countryside is largely unspoilt, with big skies, wonderful views, abundant birdlife and fabulous RSPB and Somerset Wildlife reserves to visit nearby.
- The Somerset Cider Brandy Company, the Artisan workshops at Barrington Court and Brown & Forrest Smokery are just up the road. There are also some outstanding places to eat nearby. Ask for a list before your visit, so you can book a table well in advance.
- We are mid-way between the North and the Jurassic South Coast, both being less than an hour away. Exmoor, the Blackdown Hills, the Mendips and the Quantocks are all close by. Perfect walking country with stunning views and plenty of great pubs for lunch.
- If you don't feel like going out for the evening on one of the nights of your stay, we may be able to provide an evening meal here. We use only quality ingredients, locally farmed meat, fruit and vegetables and day boat fish from Lyme Bay. Please ask.

We've always been impressed with Sawdays recommended b & bs and this was no exception. David and Rosie run a wonderful b & b and were so friendly and helpful. We stayed in the lovely well appointed annexe, with it's own terrace in the beautiful garden. David is a wonderful chef and his breakfasts were first class. We also enjoyed an excellent evening meal one night which was up to Michelin standard! There's lots to visit in the area, Forde Abbey being our favourite, and the Cotley Inn near Chard, for exceptional food. We will definitely recommend Brewers Cottage to family and friends.
