The Experience
Lotte and her team love to make you feel at ease. The bistro hums with happy people, windows are flung open in the summer and comfortable bedrooms above have their own entrance so you can come and go as you please.
Step down to the restaurant for a French platter breakfast of zingy juices, croissants, ham, cheese, eggs, sourdough toast and good coffee. Lunches are served until late (everyone loves the buckwheat crêpes) and the convivial vibe continues into the evening with candlelit tables and good-value suppers. Book the atmospheric private dining room upstairs for a special event.
Explore Frome with its quirky shops, food and vintage markets, theatre and pretty cobbled streets. Pop back to the bistro for tea and cake in the afternoon, book a table for the evening.

Location
The neighbourhood
Frome is a thriving market town. Next door to Bistro Lotte there's a butcher who supplies the restaurant. Walk down cobbled streets to independent shops, pubs, cafes, galleries, holistic treatments, farmers' markets (first and third Saturday of the month). Frome Memorial Theatre is a three-minute walk; Cooper Hall (performance venue) is a five-minute drive. If you want to head out of town for dinner, try The Talbot inn (ten-minute drive); they run a cookery school too. Bath is a 30-minute drive.
Local points of interest from Charlotte Evans
- Below our guest house you’ll find Bistro Lotte; a relaxed French restaurant and all day café. It’s a vibrant place, extremely popular with locals and visitors alike. We serve some wonderful cocktails and an enticing selection of classic French dishes.
- If you like a good market, you are in for a treat. The monthly Frome Independent has built a reputation as one of the UK’s best. The town is filled with stalls offering everything from homemade cakes, Somerset cheeses, handmade crafts and vintage finds.
- If you’re looking for entertainment, Frome is your town, there’s always something interesting going on. We have two theatres, several music venues, a cinema and some lovely bars and pubs. Bistro Lotte holds a regular music & supper club and comedy nights.
- Take a walk along Frome’s canal, see some of the quaint Somerset architecture and old factory buildings to get a feel for the town’s history. Also, down the road in picturesque Nunney, you’ll find an impressive and well preserved medieval castle.
- Frome has some wonderful places to visit nearby. For art lovers there's Hauser & Wirth in Bruton. Families will enjoy an exciting day out on safari at Longleat. For walkers, the Stourhead Estate with its gardens and miles of woodland trails is a must.
- Just outside of Frome you’ll find a beautiful lavender farm in nearby Faulkland. You can wander through the fields heady with the scent of the lavender. There’s also a shop where you can purchase gorgeous lavender products made on the farm.

Introducing
Charlotte Evans
Originally from Surrey, Lotte used to work on British Airways. She's always had a passion for great food, service and hospitality, and she moved to Frome and started running a cafe. It has been a dream realised to open Bistro Lotte. Her business partner, John Whelan, found and restored this lovely old building (once a grocer then a garage), uncovering original signs, stained glass and tiles. She and her team want to give you a wonderful experience at an affordable price and put their heart and soul into everything they do.
Bistro Lotte provided a wonderful home away from home in the lovely town of Frome. Rooms are well appointed, comfortable and clean. Breakfasts, provided in the restaurant downstairs, are generous and delicious. The croissants are some of the best I’ve had in this country. Strongly recommend it to book dinner, one night, at least in the restaurant: the French cuisine on offer is wonderful, the wine list decent, and the prices very reasonable. The staff are very friendly and accommodating.
