Chelmarsh Hall

We had an absolutely wonderful Christmas stay at Chelmarsh Hall. Perfect for a multi generational family holiday. It was a really magical place to spend Christmas. James had made Chelmarsh so special for Christmas with an enormous tree, decorations, holly and mistletoe all around, all we had to do was arrive. The dining room was perfect for our Christmas dinner, it was also great to have a large dining table in the kitchen too for breakfasts - easily accommodating our family of 12. James was so thoughtful about the little kids providing high chairs, cots and change tables. Wonderful!

We had a fantastic stay at Chelmarsh for our annual family get together and were sad to leave. James has done a great job making the house feel homely and welcoming. We especially loved the kitchen and courtyard. What a treat to be able to cater easily for 12 of us - there is plenty of everything utensil wise and loads of space to store supplies. There is plenty to see and do in this unspoilt part of the world - e.g. Ironbridge, Wenlock Priory, Ludlow and Wroxeter, a Roman city that I had no idea existed, and the walking is exceptional too, with many dramatic landscapes to inspire.

We were a party of 12 and two dogs for a family 80th birthday party. Chelmarsh Hall very much exceeded our already high expectations. Courtyard and gardens are perfect, with so much lovely space and no cars nearby. Living and sleeping accommodation is superb and beautifully furnished. The kitchen is very well equipped and kept warm by the Aga. Seating 12 for meals was easy in the dining room or the kitchen. There is a lot to do and see in the surrounding countryside. We made short journey on the Severn Valley Railway and paddled back in canoes. It all added up to a perfect weekend.

Everything about our stay at Chelmarsh Hall was absolutely superb. From the ease of the booking process, easy communication with the owner to the attention to detail and first class standard of the accommodation, I cannot fault a thing. Extra effort was made by the owner to decorate the house for Christmas and it was beautiful. The bedrooms were extremely comfortable and the house was warm and cosy with plenty of logs for the numerous fires. This beautiful home is very special and a perfect setting for a family gathering. Book without hesitation is my advice!

What a truly magnificent find! We had a wonderful week staying at Chelmarsh Hall and exploring the surrounding Shropshire countryside. The house and gardens are delightful - with so many hidden nooks and crannies for exploring minds to cause mischief and make memories. The kitchen is a dream for any aspiring cook and perfectly appointed. Loads of fun activities to do nearby for families (steam train adventures, canoeing, pony riding and the wonderful Rays farm). We stayed during the summer, but this place would be equally wonderful for a big family winter gathering! Fabulous

Truly a special place to stay, we were all wowed by the property and it's actually more spacious than the photos suggest! Whilst remaining cosy and very comfortable.There is loads of room for everyone to spread out, a huge garden as well as a lovely courtyard to keep kids penned in! Everything works - not always the case in older homes - and the kitchen is very well kitted out. James has thought of pretty much everything - a generous welcome hamper, woodburners good to go, curtains ensure rooms are dark, and James is contactable should you need anything. We need an excuse to come back soon!

We (a group of 12) had an absolutely brilliant stay at Chelmarsh Hall to see in the New Year. James was a fantastic and welcoming host, from start to finish - he provided a very helpful pre-arrival information pack, a generous welcome hamper, and was on hand for any queries. The house itself is incredible - historic, tastefully and generously furnished, but also with plenty of mod cons (the SONOS speakers in particular were a godsend!). It all made for a lovely weekend of cosy log fires, board games and walks - a perfect way to bring in the New Year with a group of friends!

Three generations of our family (aged from 7-87) had the most magical Christmas at Chelmarsh. A huge Christmas tree, a festive welcome hamper and roaring fires. The house is wonderful. Lots of space and masses of character. The kitchen had everything we needed. There is a dog friendly courtyard and garden and lovely walks in all directions. Thank you James!

Our family of 10 had an absolutely wonderful stay at Chelmarsh Hall. An amazing find! The house is fabulous and the area has plenty to offer - we stayed a week but feel like we barely scratched the surface. The owner James has been a delight to deal with and everything you could think of is provided. Chelmarsh Hall has a very homely feel which is evident the moment you step in the door. We were 3 generations of the same family, from ages 1 to 73 and the house catered for everyone. Would love to go back some time.

We had a fantastic stay at Chelmarsh Hall in August. The house has a huge amount of character though was in superb condition (as the photos show), and had everything you would need for a very comfortable stay (including a highchair for our one year-old). It is set in a wonderful location, with lots of space for the children to run around in and with loads of walks right from the doorstep. The courtyard was very beautiful and a lovely setting for having a relaxing drink or meal outside. The owners were extremely friendly and welcoming and we felt right at home. We hope to visit again!

What a find. Here's a place that Henry VIII didn't raze to the ground and now provides a thoroughly comfortable and calm environment in which to enjoy this glorious corner of our little island. Children will revel in the expanse of outdoor space whilst the adults have the most delightful medieval courtyard in which to wine and dine. A deeply historic treasure still very much alive and thriving.
