The Experience

Bang on Burford’s famous high street, this cracking pub has 16 smartly decorated rooms sized from cosy “snugs” to generous suites, all with lofty ceilings and comfy beds, plush carpets, crisp linens and colourful cushions. The 18th-century building is listed – there are stacks of original features still in evidence, from gorgeous archways and wooden doors in the bar area to quirky wall sculptures (gargoyles, too).

Downstairs are two dining areas: a smarter restaurant for long, leisurely dinners and a relaxed bar area with squashy leather sofas and a real fire – perfect for a pint and a chat. There’s a piano and daily newspapers, books, games, and walking guides to inspire you.

Food is fresh and local; breakfasts are as healthy or hearty as you like. Chef specials depend on what the butcher and fishmonger bring, while behind the bar you’ve got a choice of Butcombe’s award-winning beers.

Reviews

I absolutely loved The Prince of Burford! The interiors are gorgeous with an inviting atmosphere and great attention to detail – ambient lighting, tasteful decor, and a real sense of comfort. Top-notch hospitality and fresh, local menu. Perfectly located on Burford High Street, it's a great base for exploring the Cotswolds. Plus, Burford itself is one of the prettiest spots in the area.

Location

The neighbourhood

You’re perfectly placed to explore the pretty town with its many restaurants, antique market and independent shops, as well as the beautiful St John’s church and medieval bridge. Burford Garden Centre (five-min drive) has a good farm shop, café and restaurant. There are lots of landmark villages within a 10 to 25-min drive. The Slaughters, Bourton on the Water, and Stow-on-the-Wold are worth exploring.
