The Experience

You’re in the National Park with the darkest skies, the most fabulous walks and all sorts of extras that can be conjured up: massages, reflexology, holistic healing specialising in women’s health, a wonderful Dark Sky package. The calming sitting room and the bedrooms have sliding glass doors onto a patio with mesmerising views – lovely to sit up in bed with a cup of tea and watch the ever-changing skies, twittering birds and curious red squirrels.

A wood-burner and underfloor heating keep you balmy, the swish kitchen is geared up for cooks and the shower room leads to an enclosed Shanti bathing area with a free-standing brass tub. You’ll find a fulsome basket of tasty local goodies along with some breakfast stuff in case you forget.

On warmer days leave the glass doors open for a blast of sunshine, and as evening falls light the barbecue and prepare to be amazed by the stars – so many!

Reviews

Simply amazing! The owners of Kidlandlee have thought of everything to ensure guests receive the very best experience. The accommodation is immaculate and well equipped. The view from all rooms, including from the outdoor copper bath, across the Cheviot hills is breathtaking. We enjoyed being able to walk directly from the front door, our dog thoroughly enjoyed investigating the local woodland! The Pubs at Alwinton and Harbottle offer excellent food. We also enjoyed a visit to Cragside which is close by. We took advantage of the Spa treatment which was outstanding. 5 stars from us.

Simon, Aberdeen

The Willow is in an astounding position with unbelievable views. If you seek isolation, peace and quiet in a luxurious setting then look no further. I must also credit the Kidlandlee designers and service teams for providing such a well equipped and comfortable base for an amazing holiday. Kidlandlee is a very special and unspoiled. Sadly my words are insufficient to describe how beautiful this place is. We will be back!!!

Mark, London

We have just come back from a lovely weeks break at Kidlandlee. I would highly recommend it. We had a lovely week despite the weather! Even when the weather was bad it was impressive. We saw stars, a hare in the garden, a lightening storm, and beautiful sunrises. We loved the accommodation, it was beautifully done, slick, modern, and with all mod cons. It was in a fabulous location on top of the hills looking down to the very beautiful, Alwyn valley (at least that's what I think it's called) which has text book, glaciation features. It was a new experience starting our walks going down hill.

Caroline, Harrow

Wonderfully built cabin that gives a home away from home with outstanding views along with total tranquility, The Piece and quiet at Kidlandlee is a very rare thing in this day and age of busy roads and life noises. Attention to every detail in the cabin has been thought about with care for the most relaxing of stays. The outdoor Copper shanti bath is an amazing addition. Thank you to the cleaning team for keeping these cottages and cabins super clean and comfy and Thank you to Terri and Mat who have done a amazing job putting this wonderful mountain top retreat together. booked again xx

Helen, Snaith

We had the most amazing time at the Willow. Terri and her team have thought of absolutely everything to make Kidlandlee the most special place to stay. The accommodation was spotless and finished to an incredibly high and extremely tasteful standard. The views are out of this world, the calm is incredible. We want to live here!

Location

The neighbourhood

Kidlandee is 1400 feet above the Coquet valley bottom and walking straight from the door is wonderful, along a myriad of footpaths through moors, grassland and forests. The nearest shop/garage is at Thropton, eight miles, but there are pubs in Harbottle and Alwinton, four miles. Rothbury is 14 miles for a good choice of shops and cafés. Alnwick is 14 miles for the castle and gardens and Barter Books.

Local points of interest from Terri & Matthew Stock

  • Visit Craigside House! A wonderful day out for the whole family and doggies too. Building camps in the woods, nature trails, kayaking and canoeing on the lake. Beautiful gardens and house full of local history and inventions. Our favorite place to go!
  • For Harry Potter fans! Alnwick Castle is a fantastic day out for all the family. Learn about the history of Alnwick and enjoy the beautiful award-winning gardens created by The Duchess of Northumberland. Activities, concerts, and magical fun!
  • Barter Books is one of the biggest second-hand bookstores in the country. Great for rainy days. Preserved beautifully, it is located in the old Alnwick Train Station. Sit, read, and relax with a cuppa in restored waiting rooms with open fires. Dogs welco
  • Holy Island and the Farne Islands are a great day out. Spot seals and puffins as you travel by boat. Visit the home of Grace Darling, Longstone Light House and find out how her amazing courage inspired the first lifeboats to patrol our shores.
  • Alnmouth Beach is the start of amazing castle walks and the beach itself is stunning and the local’s favourite. The Village has amazing coffee shops and dog friendly pubs. Visit the School House Gallery for famous local artwork and cultural events.
  • The Star Inn in Harbottle is loved by guests for its warm welcome and is at the heart of the community. You can dine in or pick up a takeaway on your way back to the cottage. It's dog friendly too so you can take them with you.

Introducing

Terri & Matthew Stock

Terri and Matthew moved to Kidlandlee Estate from Kent in 2017 with their children and two Labradors. Matthew had a renovation business which he has put to good use on the cottages and buildings, and Terri was a stage manager in the theatre in London for a number of years. They hope their guests enjoy the peace and tranquillity, have fun exploring the hills, valleys and beaches and totally unwind during their stay.
