The Experience
The climb up is spectacular and, once at the top, the views stretch for miles. There’s a spiritual feel to this whole place and it’s not a surprise to learn about its history – from monastery to farm to school, you can read all about it in your cosy cottage. A loaf of bread, eggs, butter and fresh flowers await along with a bag of goodies from Tully’s in Rothbury – Northumbrian biscuits, chocolate from Choc Affair, Berry Bros. & Rudd fizz and lots of other treats.
You’re off-grid (energy is supplied by solar and wind) and a massive wood-burner keeps you cosy with unlimited logs from wind-felled trees on the estate. Throws on beds and sofas are made from recycled plastic and are as soft as wool, mattresses are deep, duvets and pillows plump and the profound silence will lull you.
You have your own little garden with a barbecue and seating. Summer evenings with those views will be sublime, and then the stars come out.

I almost don’t want to leave a review in case I then can’t book in the future due to Kidlandlee’s popularity. It is a bit of UK paradise. 3 miles from the nearest road (which is no more than a lane). All you can hear are birds singing. The views across the valley are stunning. You can’t help but just sit and gaze and realise how lucky you are to be here. If you’ve never been to this part of the World you don’t realise what you are missing. Book up now.

Wow what a spot you have here! Thank you Team Kidlandlee for making this such a special break. The school house is just wonderful, everything we could possibly need and more. A real home from home - you have got this just right. This is our second visit to Kidlandlee and we will definitely be back soon. It has been the perfect place to relax and recharge the batteries. Thank you, for the most wonderful stay this Christmas.

Once again a splendid stay at Kidlandlee. This time we stayed in the School House. Everything was spotlessly clean and beautifully appointed. You cannot better the views from here and there are fabulous walks straight from the door. We were also lucky to witness the Northern Lights whilst here which made our stay extra special and is thanks to the dark skies status of the area.

Another wonderful stay in this stunning location. Lovely walks combined with the tranquility of the surrounding area. Having tried five cottages they are all equally equipped to the highest standard and kept scrupulously clean by a very diligent team. The beds are very comfortable and make it feel like a home from home. We definitely look forward to our next visit!

As always we have had a fantastic week at Kidlandlee. We stayed in the school house this time and enjoyed every minute.... Kidlandlee is such a peaceful place to relax and unwind and have a great nights sleep made possible by the tranquil surroundings and comfy beds. Surely the most remote spot in England and unique simply for that. But there's something else here - as if the ancient hills were just dying to tell you their tales of Roman soldiers, marauding Reivers, monks and pilgrims, Victorian school children and everything else they've witnessed for so many thousands of years. It's a very special place.

Location
The neighbourhood
Bring everything you need and settle in. Walks start from your door and are spectacular through the Coquet Valley or up into the hills - just follow the sheep trails. Cyclists will head to Kidland forest. Harbottle (three miles) has a 12th-century castle, a holy well and the Star Inn which doubles as a local shop and does woodfired pizza in the courtyard. Rothbury, 14 miles, is the nearest town.
Local points of interest from Terri & Matthew Stock
- Visit Craigside House! A wonderful day out for the whole family and doggies too. Building camps in the woods, nature trails, kayaking and canoeing on the lake. Beautiful gardens and house full of local history and inventions. Our favourite place to go!
- For Harry Potter fans! Alnwick Castle is a fantastic day out for all the family. Learn about the history of Alnwick and enjoy the beautiful award-winning gardens created by The Duchess of Northumberland. Activities, concerts and magical fun!
- Barter Books is one of the biggest second-hand book stores in the country. Great for rainy days. Preserved beautifully it is located in the old Alnwick Train Station. Sit, read and relax with a cuppa in restored waiting rooms with open fires. Dogs welcome
- Holy Island and the Farne Islands are a great day out. Spot seals and puffins as you travel by boat. Visit the home of Grace Darling, Longstone Light House and find out how her amazing courage inspired the first life boats to patrol our shores.
- Alnmouth Beach is the start of amazing castle walks and the beach itself is stunning and the local’s favourite.. The Village has amazing coffee shops and dog friendly pubs. Visit the School House Gallery for famous local art work and cultural events.
- The Star Inn in Harbottle is loved by guests for its warm welcome and is at the heart of the community. You can dine in or pick up a take away on your way back to the cottage. It's dog friendly too so you can take them with you.

Introducing
Terri & Matthew Stock
Terri and Matthew moved to Kidlandlee Estate from Kent in 2017 with their children and two Labradors. Matthew had a renovation business which he has put to good use on the cottages and buildings, and Terri was a stage manager in the theatre in London for a number of years. They hope their guests enjoy the peace and tranquillity, have fun exploring the hills, valleys and beaches and totally unwind during their stay.
Our second visit to Kidlandlee and it can only be described as perfect. The cottage is well appointed and comfortable with plenty of space for 4 and a dog. The enclosed garden being ideal for the dog. An injury to our dog on the first day meant we couldnt do all the walking we had planned from the cottage so had to find other entertainment. Trips to Bamburgh, a visit to Barters books in Alnwick a gentle walk over on Simonside, visit to The Star in Harbottle, Cragside NT. All worth a visit. Great views and solitude, what more could one ask for
