The Bothy

It may be called a bothy but it’s spacious with high vaulted ceilings and exposed beams, well-equipped with all the basics you need to cook and very swish. Underfloor heating and an electric fire keep you cosy even when the weather is having a tantrum and there are plenty of books and games plus a smart TV. Settle in on a very comfy sofa (also a sofa bed for extra folk) and feel well away from hustle and bustle.

Stride footpaths and through woods to the popular Boatside Inn, two miles, for a pint of ale, good pub grub or a grand Sunday lunch – bring the dog too. Stock up in Hexham, a 10-minute drive, and a popular market town. Return to open the wine, light the barbecue and watch the sun go down and the stars come out from the patio – there’s scant light pollution here.

Sleep soundly on a thick mattress with crisp Egyptian cotton and a soft woollen throw – nothing will shatter the deep peace and you should wind down nicely.
