The Experience
Drive three miles from the main road along the valley floor, then up one of the Upper Coquetdale hills to 1400 feet above sea level. Your semi-detached stone-built cottage is one of two together and is off-grid, with electricity sourced from wind turbines and solar panels and water from a borehole.
Find a living area with wood-burner and endless logs, books and games for rainy days and a barbecue in the garden. Terri and Matthew live on site and will leave you a swish hamper from Tully’s of Rothbury and a bottle of champagne – plus milk, bread, eggs and butter.
Walk for miles, bring your dog, cycle and bird-watch. The nearest pub is four miles away, shops and restaurants are in Rothbury, 14 miles away; the Scottish Borders are nine miles over the hills and wide sandy beaches are near enough for a day at the seaside.

What an absolute treat! Peace and quiet, stunning views, a beautifully appointed cottage. We had a fantastic week (2 adults, children aged 9 and 12). The drive up from the main road alone was a joy every day and the kids loved the space to play around, they even enjoyed a game of croquet on what must be the lawn with the best view in the UK! The rough gravel track was fine in our SUV and we did have a couple of power cuts due to lack of wind to generate electricity but that just added to the "off grid" adventure of it all! We highly recommend a stay at Kidlandlee.

I am in love with this place! Kidlandlee is totally idyllic. This is my second stay up here and i always leave feeling so re charged and relaxed to the core, Both cottages we've stayed in are second to none on comfort and amenities - and I have stayed in a lot of holiday cottages, other than bird song I don't think I've experienced such piece and quiet anywhere. We have booked another stay later this year and im already looking forward to the visit. The dogs adore it too :)

An absolutely lovely cottage in a stunning setting. We had a wonderful week and very much hope to return. The cottage itself is very well-appointed with excellent quality fixtures, furnishings and toiletries. It comfortably housed the 6 people in our party with all 3 bedrooms being a good size. There is a (shared) gravelled area in front of the cottage which was just lovely for enjoying the views, while the enclosed (small) back garden was perfect for the dogs, and for BBQing on the brilliant gas-fired BBQ. The last few miles of access is a (roughish) gravel road - but it’s worth it.

Location
The neighbourhood
Kidlandlees is set in a Dark Sky area and has incredible views over the hills of Upper Coquetdale and below the Coquet Valley over to the Simonside Hills. It’s a place to get away from it all – four miles to the nearest village and 14 miles to the nearest shop in Rothbury. You’re just nine miles from the Scottish border. Apart from Matthew and Terri and guests in the other three cottages, all you will see are birds and sheep and the occasional walker.

Introducing
Terri & Matthew Stock
Terri and Matthew moved to Kidlandlee Estate from Kent in 2017 with their children and two Labradors. Matthew had a renovation business which he has put to good use on the cottages and buildings, and Terri was a stage manager in the theatre in London for a number of years. They hope their guests enjoy the peace and tranquillity, have fun exploring the hills, valleys and beaches and totally unwind during their stay.
Dipper Cottage was wonderfully comfortable, warm and very well appointed! We had a lovely week stay, the views up there are fabulous and the road up, although rough, is perfectly manageable except for very low-slung vehicles eg sports cars. My Berlingo made light work of it. I totally recommend a stay here! The owners are onside and very helpful. Wonderful walking country.
