The Experience
Rosemary, warm and cultured, Sooty the terrier and Minnie the dachshund, greet you with homemade cake and encourage you to feel at home. Her bright home and its bookshelves reflect her interests in art and history. She’ll happily arrange collection from the railway station or bus stop; a packed lunch for a day out – perhaps to Hadrian’s Wall, or the races – will be no problem either.
Breakfasts in the kitchen/dining room can be as leisurely as you like, with homemade jams and muesli and traditionally cured bacon. And you’re welcome to take your coffee and a newspaper and relax in the little courtyard or sitting room before strolling across the park to the Abbey, museum or market.
Join one of several heritage walks around the town or hike through the wonderful National Park which incorporates the International Dark Skies Park. Return for a hot bath, much warmth and comfort and a short stroll into town for supper.

My parents and I had a lovely stay here, whilst they were dropping me back to Newcastle Uni. My parents have stayed here everytime they visited me during my undergrad degree , and are always taken aback by the warm reception they are welcomed with from rosemary every time. Each morning rosemary cooks a delicious breakfast with cereals, fresh yoghurt and fruit, tea coffee, and of course a traditional English should you so wish. The dogs are extremely welcoming , and there is a selection of fine eateries in Hexham. Rosemary’s is surrounded by historic and picturesque hills! We will be back :)

A really lovely B&B and so well catered for in every way. From Rosemary's hospitality to the smallest of touches - fresh flowers in the room, homemade granola, lovely pressed sheets. Also a great base for exploring the area - all the benefits of being in a town yet staying in a lovely quiet terrace that is tucked away. I really recommend it. Thank you, Rosemary.

Rosemary and her fluffy Sooty Dog are very welcoming and generous hosts. Our bedroom was stylish and comfortable with huge fluffy bath towels in our well equipped bathroom. During our stay we wanted for nothing. A delicious and filling breakfast meant that we were well set up for a day of exploring Hadrian's Wall and a drive to revisit old haunts at Seahouses. We ate at 3 different restaurants recommended by Rosemary. All within an easy walking distance.

I stayed at Ada cres. in May, and couldn't wait to bring my daughter as a special treat en route back to university, Rosemary is so welcoming, and nothing is too much trouble. The bedroom delightful, luxurious, and a little hideaway, and breakfast is amazing, and just such a treat to stay there. Thank you, Hester and Grace

Our first time away from home in nearly a year and we couldn't have made a better choice. Rosemary instantly made us feel comfortable and looked after us with great kindness all weekend. It's convenient too, just a short walk, mainly through the park to the town centre We had the immaculate and cosy attic bedroom with its view of the sky, sunset, moon, trees and rooftops. The Little Mexico restaurant took us back to our years in Mexico - highly recommended Our original email enquiry via Alistair Sawday didn't get though to Rosemary. If you don't get an answer email directly or phone

I had a warm, comfortable night at Rosemary's. Crisp linen, throws and electric blankets provided a soft cocoon. The house is on a quiet street, a little way from the town centre. Sadly, there's no Garlic Dog but Rosemary provided a thoughtful welcome with offer of refreshments in front of the log burning fire and a well chosen tea tray in the room. Her enjoyment of country pursuits is reflected in the many pictures and memorabilia around the house. Breakfast was a relaxing affair in the kitchen, with Rosemary an ever attentive host.

What a happy weekend: Rosemary our host was welcoming, witty and well read; Garlick the dog was friendly and fun; the bed gave us 3 nights of the best sleep we've ever had; the bathroom offered excellent shower and thick towels; breakfast included freshly-squeezed orange juice, home-made bread and coffee brewed just the way we like it; the house exuded both comfort and cleanliness that were good for the soul; and we had a comfortable and pleasant ten-minute walk in to town. We'll be back.

An absolutely delightful stay with a charming host who welcomed us with afternoon tea in her sun-trap garden. Rosemary recommended us to what may very well be the best restaurant in Hexham and her house is only a ten-minute walk to the centre of town but situated in a very peaceful cul-de-sac. When my wife mentioned mushrooms for breakfast they were produced forthwith! Highly recommended.

We had a really lovely stay with Rosemary and Garlic. Her home is warm and welcoming (especially important in January!) with an open fire and lots of thoughtful extra touches, like an electric blanket on the bed and tea and cake on arrival. We enjoyed exploring Hexham and Corbridge - Rosemary loves where she lives and is a knowledgeable guide to the area. Very highly recommended, we will return next time we visit Northumberland!

We booked 2 rooms. Lovely relaxing homely place to stay. Stayed 3 nights while exploring the region. Rosemary was most helpful with where to visit in the area. Breakfast was always delicious and she did all she could to cook food which we would like. Impeccable cleanliness and attention to every detail in the room. Never stayed in b & b before, but could not fault this stay.

It was a very peaceful place to stay in for people like us from London. Rosemary is a brilliant hostess and is interested in many things so conversation is lively. Her cooking is very good and one point about staying in a cul de sac is that there is no traffic noise. Hexham is a good place to stay to see a lot of Northumberland and as we came up with no car we found the local transport, particularly the AD122, very good.

A delightful overnight stop in this lovely B and B. Nothing too much trouble, a tea and cake welcome, very comfortable, homely, delicious breakfast. We would have liked to have spent more time there as there is a lot in the area to see. Great Indian restaurant too, Saathi.

Location
The neighbourhood
Hexham’s central, ancient Abbey, is ten minutes’ walk from residential Ada Crescent. And there’s good food in this thriving market town; Rosemary keeps an up-to-date list of eateries and will gladly book for you. The fortnightly farmers’ market draws crowds. As does the May Book Festival and the September Music Festival. Hadrian’s Wall, and the National Hunt racecourse, are ten-minutes’ drive. Catch a bus to Corbridge, a train to Newcastle.
Local points of interest from Rosemary Stobart
- Historic Hexham - named in Country Life magazine as England's favourite market town; situated in the heart of the Tyne valley with its ancient Abbey as a centrepiece. However a few miles away wild Northumberland beckons, perfect for peace and solitude
- BOOK FESTIVAL 26 April to 5th May 2024. Jazz Festival in the Abbey, Opera in the Abbey, great cinema,September Music Festivalare just a few ideas! Corbridge has lovely independent shops + a Music Festival in July & Newcastle is not far awa
- If National Hunt racing is your thing then Hexham Racecourse - ten minutes' drive - is a natural amphitheatre 600 ft above the town and holds fifteen meetings from Spring until Christmas. Check out their website!
- Hadrian's Wall plus its fourteen major Roman sites is within easy reach. Marvel at the stunning landscape of the World Heritage Site and visit two focal points nearby - Housesteads and Vindolanda. Hop on the Roman Wall Bus, AD122 which runs hourly.
- Places to see an easy drive away include Wallington, Belsay, Herterton, &Cragside. However, Alnwick, Dunstanburgh, Warkworth, Bamburgh are only approx an hour further. Beadnell’s sandy beach, easy walks & west facing harbour epitomise a bygone age.
- What about a break without the car? We are a short walk from Hexham Rail Station or if you have a heavy suitcase I can come and collect you. There is also a good bus service to and from the town with a bus stop near the house.

Introducing
Rosemary Stobart
Rosemary grew up in the Scottish Borders and has renovated and run other special places before settling here in 2015. Sharing her Hexham home, her design flair, art and books, is a treat. Her knowledge of all things Northumbrian (and beyond) is impressive and she is as happy to advise and chat as she is to leave guests ensconced in an armchair by the fire with a slice of homemade cake.
Fabulous stay! Rosemary is a great host and really looked after us. Well appointed room, comfy bed, beautifully fluffy towels and home cooked breakfasts- couldn’t ask for more. Ada Crescent is a good location- quick walk through a leafy green park to restaurants in the market square and 15-20 mins walk to bus and rail stations. Great location as a base to walk Hadrian’s Wall and see beautiful Northumberland by public transport. Thanks Rosemary for a great stay.
