The Experience
A unique slice of history. This iconic landmark on the former RAF North Creake airfield was built in the 1940s to command 199 and 171 Squadrons. The restoration has been a labour of love and Nigel and Claire’s attention to detail is remarkable: modernism and Art Deco design in full flow. Be greeted with English-grown tea or freshly brewed coffee in the art-filled sitting room; sink into goose down in bright bedrooms; enjoy shiny bathrooms with period fittings and local soaps.
Breakfasts are lovely – porridge, homemade drop scones, sweet or savoury French toast and a veggie version of the Full Monty. If you’re staying in the Stirling Suite annexe then you get it delivered, and all can be adapted for vegans too with a bit of notice. History tours include the open roof deck; Wells-next-the-Sea and Blakeney Point Seal Trips are close.
The house is available for groups in the four double bedrooms and extra beds can be rustled up.

The Control Tower is the perfect place to explore the north Norfolk coast. Steeped in history being part of the former RAF North Creake airfield, it has been lovingly restored with beautiful art-deco fittings. The ambience is suberb, and the breakfasts are even better. This was our second stay and in the Stirling Suite rather than the house, breakfast was delivered to the door every morning, and set you up for the day. If, like me, you like your aviation and history then there is plenty to get your teeth into.

This place is sublime, especially for lovers of Art Deco as the attention to detail is perfect. For a relaxing break in beautiful surroundings it really cannot be beaten. Gorgeous bedrooms with super comfortable beds and a bathroom where you just might want to stay for your whole holiday. The owners, Claire and Nigel, are wonderfully friendly and provide really tasty vegetarian and vegan breakfasts that I cannot imagine would disappoint event a confirmed meat eater. There are many delightful places to visit in the area and I really cannot recommend this place enough.

We had a TRULY WONDERFUL overnight stay in this TRULY UNIQUE bed and breakfast!!!!!!!!!! EVERYTHING was perfect. The hosts are WONDERFUL and nothing is too much trouble. Their love for this unique piece of history shines throughout with all the little touches that make it really feel like you have gone back in time to someone’s 1940s home. We stayed in The Signal Room - which has an amazing vintage bath and a really comfortable bed. The Living Room with its roaring fire was so welcoming on a chilly November evening. And as for breakfast! WOW!!!!!

Location
The neighbourhood
Walsingham has been a place of pilgrimage for hundreds of years and has the ruins of two medieval monasteries, so it's packed with history and also has a good farm shop. The North Norfolk coast is renowned for its big skies, wonderful bird watching and walks on very long sandy beaches. Wells-next-the-Sea has interesting galleries and famous French's fish and chips. Holkham Hall is nearby.
Local points of interest from Claire Nugent & Nigel Morter
- Taking a stroll out on Stiffkey Marshes. It is so much fun to dodge the creaks and puddles on the way out. Your efforts are always rewarded with a wide open sandy beach usually deserted the perfect place to take in the amazing enormous Norfolk sky.
- Browsing antique and vintage shops in Holt. It is easy to spend hours rummaging in the fabulous shops in Holt from the large antique centres to the tiny independent vintage shops like Past Caring and Barron Art.
- No seaside holiday should be complete without fish and chips. Wells-next-the-Sea has the award winning French’s. They are best enjoyed sitting on the quay wall watching the sea birds over the salt marshes.
- Cycling the lanes in North Norfolk. We have such gorgeous lanes around here one of the best ways to explore is by bike. Contrary to popular belief Norfolk is not as flat as you might think but is beautiful taken in slowly.
- Our local villages have so many quiet hidden treasures. The Walsingham Abbey grounds - especially for the snowdrop walk in February; the iron age fort in Warham and Binham Priory to name but a few delights.
- Whether you like bird watching, walking, cycling or browsing the delightful independent shops there are so many places to stop for lunch... we are spoilt in North Norfolk! Lots of recommendations by us - just ask

Introducing
Claire Nugent & Nigel Morter
Nigel and Claire met at university and they share a love of the 1940s and North Norfolk. Together they bought and lovingly restored this unique building in 2011 and are passionate about sharing it and their love of the surrounding area with their guests.
More than perfect for those intrigued by aviation history. This B&B is very comfortable and homely, with warm and friendly hosts so willing to share their knowledge and love of the area, and the period they have embraced.
