The Experience

These beautiful old cottages (once a cartshed) stand all in a row near a duck pond and magnificent Sharrington Hall. The largest cottages are Shell, its colours a soothing blend of oyster, silver and taupe and Sky, a symphony of blues, lavenders and greys, both dog friendly. The smallest is Seal, all muted greys and driftwood touches; with a charcoal grey roll-top by a dove grey four-poster, it is very romantic. Samphire’s palette reflects Norfolk’s marshes.

Each cottage has immaculate white towels, a roll-top tub, REN lotions and a log-burner, and all (bar Samphire) a bathroom for every room. Oak or painted floorboards are topped with rugs, custom-made kitchens have large range cookers, coir carpeted stairs lead to walk-in showers and delicious crisp beds.

The setting is brilliant, half a mile from an award-winning deli and close to beaches.

In the art of getting ever detail just right Seal Cottage is a masterpiece. The soothing colours, the thoughtful equipment, the sumptuous comfort, the snug warmth, the tranquil garden views... all subtly combined to evoke an instant sense of escape. Clever stuff, Steve and Katie!

David, Tynemouth

We stayed in ‘Salt’ which had a beautiful stylish interior, furnished to a high standard. The cottage was well equipped, spotlessly clean & welcoming. Hosts Steve & Katie were genuinely caring & helpful providing clear instructions / info for a smooth stay. Would definitely recommend & will return. Thank you for a great stay.

Valerie, Essex

A beautiful cottage. Very stylishly designed. Sophisticated and simple. Lovely having a bath in the bedroom, as it was such an attractive bedroom to look on! The bed was ample and comfortable. We were slightly surprised by lack of any private outside space but it was clear in the property description so our fault for not reading carefully! Such a peaceful location! And gorgeous to have the wonderful Hall to look at out of the window. Very nice touch leaving a bottle of fizz and big bucket of addictive local popcorn. Thank you!

Sharon, East Sussex

A quiet, peaceful and most unusual place to stay and enjoy the beauty of this part of Norfolk. Close to the Georgian small town of Holt with its traditional shops. Plenty of interesting places to visit. We enjoyed it thoroughly.

John, Winchester

Delightful cosy cottage, exactly as described. Quiet rural location with easy access to country and coastal walks, smart small towns and gastro pubs. Detailed owners notes most helpfully making accurate recommendations.

Christine, Newcastle upon Tyne

Beautifully presented cottage in an idyllic setting, close to Holt and wonderful beaches. Everything we could possibly have wanted for our stay, immaculately clean and so very stylish. Steve (the owner) is such a lovely guy, he greeted us when we arrived and then came along to bid us farewell, if we had wanted or needed anything he was there but always at a very discreet distance. We will definitely return and that says it all really.

Chris, Nottingham

A gem. Perfect in every way. Superbly appointed interior in a peaceful location. I could live here very happily. Highly recommended.

Ben, London

What a wonderful stay at the Cartshed Cottages. We stayed for 3 nights and wish we had booked more. We stayed in the dog friendly Shell cottage. We had a personal welcome and goodbye by the owners who made us feel at home right away. The cottage is as stunning as the pictures. We welcome letters and a pack for us and our pooch and suggestions of things to do an places to eat. The bed was amazingly comfortable and cottage amenities were fantastic. We cannot fault it. The location is super as well, access to walks, beaches and Holt. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

The Cartshed Cottages are a special find. They are nestled in the quiet and beautiful village of Sharrington, with convenient access to the town of Holt, and the expansive coastal villages of Blakeney and Salthouse, amongst many others! Katie and Steve are very welcoming and I have no doubt that once you've stayed here, you'll be booking a return visit!

Rose, Sawday's Inspector

The Shell cottage experience was delightful from beginning to end. The cottages are set in a peaceful green idyll within the Norfolk countryside. This tastefully restored and decorated cottage felt instantly welcoming, homely and relaxing. Exposed beams, muted colours, high quality and sympathetic fittings feel an embodied part of the experience and reflect the creative vision of the owners. White fluffy towels and lashings of hot water, comfortable beds with crisp cool linen await you after a day of exploring this area of natural beauty and spectacular coastline.

Catherine & Rod, Lincoln

We loved our stay in Seal - lovely and stylish cottage at Sharrington Hall. Peace and quiet, beautiful countryside- loved to wake up to just birds singing. Good location to get to lots of places in North Norfolk. We very much appreciated the Covid precautions made by the Steve & Katie, we felt very safe and very welcome. They came around personally for a chat and provided a long list of valuable recommendations in advance via email.

Gesche, London

Just had a lovely few days in Sky Cottage with our dog. Wonderful location, beaches, walks, town, and many places of interest close by. Stunning accommodation with everything you need and fitted out to a very high standard. The cottages also have a lovely garden. Very helpful but unobtrusive hosts. Very relaxing experience.

Diane, Sutton Coldfield

We have just returned from our amazing weekend at Cartshed cottages! We stayed in Shell. It was absolutely stunning I wanted to pick it up and take it home. Everything we could have possibly have wanted was there for us.We loved the wood burning stove xx Thankyou Steve and Kate we are already planning our return trip in the spring xx

This is our second break at Cartshed Cottages, last time we stayed in Samphire which was lovely and this time in Shell which is also beautiful and larger - it was very indulgent for two but absolutely perfect - we enjoyed all the surrounding historic Houses - villages - stunning coastline and great pubs with good local food - it really is an idyllic situation and a special self-catering holiday.

Jeannette, Kent

Delightful cottage, comfortable beds and wonderful hosts. Perfect location for family cycling and visiting local attractive villages.

Nikola, Crowborough

We loved our stay at Cartshed Cottages, super comfortable and with everything we could possibly need. We stayed in Sky with our dog who was approving too. Loads of great walks and pubs and lovely little villages, North Norfolk just stunning and the cottages in the heart of it all. Katie and Steve were wonderful hosts, hitting the perfect balance of making sure you're happy and settled then leaving you to it. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend!

Sonia, London

We have visited the North Norfolk coast numerous times, but Christmas 2013 in Seal Cottage at Sharrington Hall was the perfect holiday - the location, the hospitality, the furnishings and decoration, the comfort. A well equipped kitchen, a big fireplace with wood stove, a comfy informal four posted bed, an in-bedroom bath, a separate shower room all add up to the ideal 'home away from home! Upon our arrival for the Christmas break, we turned on the light, to be greeted by a beautiful 'minimal' tree along with a pannatone and a bottle of prosecco. Thank you! We'll be back ….

Christopher

This was our second stay, and this time we brought the whole family, hiring three of the four cottages for a birthday celebration. We had three generations and two continents represented in our group but there was complete consensus - this really is a perfect place to get away. The wonderful weather played its part, but the chic designs of the cottages and the sense of luxury contributed immeasurably to a memorable long weekend.

Michael

Fabulous cottage in the grounds of a Jacobean Mansion; all beautifully restored and decorated in impecccable taste by Katie and Steve. They are solicitous hosts who even texted us the day before arrival with a weather report. A welcome pack of the local Sharrington strawberries and a lovely bottle of wine made us feel at home. We stayed in Seal cottage , warm and cosy, perfect for a relaxing break. we were ten minutes from the coast at Blakeney and the endless skies of Norfolk beaches. Bliss. Lots of interesting places to visit if you can bear to leave the hypnotic power of the coast.

Jerome

Just had a fantastic late summer weekend in Norfolk, staying at Seal Cottage. What a find! It was quiet and peaceful, which we were looking for after a busy few months. Seal is beautifully decorated and large for a 2-person cottage. The bedroom is huge, complete with roll-top bath and four-poster bed– luxury! Katie and Steve were fantastic hosts, texting us with a local weather forecast and directions before we arrived, providing a great written guide to area highlights and a bowl of fresh strawberries for our arrival – a lovely touch.

Introducing

Katie Bassford King

Katie and Steve left London in 2010 to buy the rather run-down Hall which they then restored, along with the cartshed. Katie is an interior designer and takes delight in making the places stunning. She has a grand eye for details and the muted colours that reflect the Norfolk countryside. They like to welcome all guests and will also be around to say goodbye.
