The Experience

A huge comfort, these days, to walk into a proper old-fashioned pub and find it heaving with office workers and city types propping up the bar. No food at all, but on each floor there is a ‘pantry’ with soft drinks, kettle for tea and coffee, biscuits and crisps. Bedrooms range from doubles to suites, one with a balcony, all well-designed with clever mirrors to give that spacious feeling, good lighting and street views.

Each room has an en suite shower, the suite has a tub, all are spotless with Arran soaps and lotions. Everywhere feels fresh and bright and cared for.

Downstairs you can join the throng (it’s quieter at weekends) for a pint of London Pride or some Balfour lager while you decide where to eat – there’s a massive choice within walking distance. The nearest tube, Liverpool Street, is a two-minute walk, Old Spitalfields Market is seven minutes, Leadenhall Market six.

Reviews

A really friendly, unstuffy traditional pub in the heart of the city, with peaceful rooms upstairs – perfect for collapsing after a day on your feet in London (there is so much to do nearby!). The staff are lovely too and couldn't be more helpful.

Location

The neighbourhood

Visit Spitalfields Market, take a tour with The Gentle Author (brilliant) or Brick Lane (16 minutes) for bagels, record and vintage shops. Admire the view from the Sky Garden (11 mins), visit Dennis Severs' House – an untouched home from 1724, explore the Tower of London, St Paul's Cathedral and Borough Market. Good transport to West End theatres, museums and the Barbican.

Local points of interest from Balfour Hospitality

  • The Bull is a vibrant London pub and boutique hotel, in an ideal location between the City, the Barbican and Spitalfields.
  • Just a short walk away from Liverpool Street Station, Bishopsgate and Shoreditch, The Bull is situated perfectly for exploring London. Despite the central location, our beautiful bedrooms offer a welcome respite from the big city.
  • Each of our rooms are named after a part of the pub’s illustrious history. From Fisher’s Folly to The Devonshire Suite, all are beautifully decorated and very comfortable.
