The Experience

It’s an unfussy, unpretentious house so if you want modern and swish you’ll have to go elsewhere. What it has got is a slightly eccentric charm and the collection of pictures throughout is a draw in itself. Two bedrooms, one facing the garden and the other the street, are roomy and have well-dressed beds, plates and knives and forks in case you want to bring a snack back and spotless en suite bathrooms with proper baths.

Timings for arriving and leaving are relaxed, you can drop off luggage when you need and there’s a key lock box so you can stagger in late if you want, so long as you don’t make too much noise. There is no second B here so you can get up as late as you like and find somewhere nearby to eat – you get a good guide.

If you come with friends and want to chat, you’ll have to do it in one of the bedrooms as there isn’t a guest sitting room – you’ll find the means to make tea and coffee and some biscuits in a basket.

Reviews

As soon as you walk in you feel it's going to be an interesting and creative house – there's an amazing eclectic collection of pictures on the walls. Charlie was very kind, offering me tea and biscuits. It felt very much like being in someone's home and I was treated as family.

Location

The neighbourhood

The nearest café is a two-minute walk, then Brixton itself has every food outlet imaginable. The Ritzy cinema has all the latest releases, you can get some fresh air in Brockwell Park, find a walled garden or visit the market for loads of good restaurants plus individual shops selling just about everything. Charlie can give you routes for cycling, or you can jump on an Uber boat to visit Greenwich.

Local points of interest from Charles Codrington

  • Reach all parts of London quickly and easily, the West End is 15 minutes away by Underground and there are buses from Brixton to all parts of London. My favourite is the 159 bus route to Oxford Circus, the best way to see Big Ben and get to the West End.
  • Foodie Heaven, Brixton hosts many celebrated restaurants offering food from around the globe, Brixton market has reinvented itself as THE place to eat with many interesting pop-up restaurants, cafes and music gigs. There are so many choices on our doorstep.
  • Our house is easily reached from all five of London's major airports, Heathrow, Gatwick, City, Stanstead and Luton as well as St Pancras International Station (Eurostar).
  • Special day trip? Easy, take the Dockland Light railway to Greenwich, marvel at the Old Royal Naval College, see the Painted Hall, straddle east and west on the Greenwich Meridan, lunch on Whitbait and return to Westminster on the Riverboat - sensational.
