The Experience

Walks down the surrounding wildlife-filled lanes will please lovers of nature all year round, in summer you’ll spot butterflies and bees while at night the resident owls flit through the starlit skies. The open-plan living/dining room is a grand place to settle, with plenty of books, smokeless fuel range and comfy seating. You’ll find basics for cooking in the kitchen cupboards and a super welcome pack of own label wine, local plum bread and butter.

On sunny days you can spill through the French windows onto the patio for al fresco suppers, a barbecue and optional pop-up hot tub. Drive a short distance, or walk, for wild swimming in the lake, or you can try your hand at fly fishing. The owners are happy to let you use their tennis court.

Upstairs are two charming bedrooms with lovely quilts and blankets, gleaming en suite bathrooms and an extra child or cot room. You can order a meal from a good local chef, or walk to the Clickem Inn.

Reviews

One of the best cottages we have ever stayed in. The garden gets the evening sunshine and has a beautiful rural outlook

Rod

Nestling in the heart of the Lincolnshire Wolds with breathtaking views across the rural landscape, there are wide open spaces here solely for your enjoyment. After trying your luck to catch a trout or having a dip in the lake you can walk (or cycle) to the pub for some seasonal produce, and then it's back to your country retreat and more of those mesmerising views.

Location

The neighbourhood

You're on the outskirts of Thorganby village with far-reaching views of the rolling countryside. Stock up at the excellent farm shop, The Wolds Edge, who sell Lincoln Red beef and have a café. Louth is only 12 miles, a unique Georgian market town, good for exploring. Buy haddock and salmon from Alfred Enderby in Grimsby – smoked in the traditional way and which can be delivered.

Local points of interest from Emma Milligan-Manby

  • If you are looking for a cottage set away from any other properties here's your place.

  • Amble up the hill to the local pub with it's good selection of beers.
  • Lincolnshire's wild coast is a car journey away but take in the beautiful market town of Alford on the way.
  • Up on the farm wild swimming enthusiasts will be happy in the lake, or you can try your hand at fly fishing.
