The Experience

Designed by a conservation architect, with gable ceilings and picture windows giving a real feeling of space, you should immediately feel at home here. Views soar over lovely countryside, there’s a wildflower meadow and a lake which you can swim or fish in. Artists and writers may install themselves in the garden room and seek inspiration from all the nature surrounding them.

Chill out in the high-beamed open-plan living room/dining room/kitchen – cooks will find all they need with basics in the cupboards, plenty of kit and a very generous welcome pack with own label wine, local plum bread and butter.

Roomy, beamed bedrooms are up a couple of steps, both with lovely views over the garden, nice art and handmade curtains; there are two bathrooms, one with a shower, the other a bath. Spill out onto a patio with furniture for sunbathing, barbecue suppers and evenings listening out for the owls. Walk up to the owners’ tennis court and bash a ball about.

Reviews

We have had a super two weeks here. Emma and James are so nice and friendly, the cottage is very well equipped and is very well looked after. We saw the Barn owl on several occasions and had a super holiday exploring Lincolnshire. The App they provide is excellent giving you all the information you need, a brilliant idea. We also loved the combines and tractors (my boys are in Herts Young Farmers). Highly recommend the place, very quiet location. Thank you all so much.

Kirsty, St Albans

With wildflower meadows and lavender bushes to attract bees and butterflies, trout fishing or wild swimming in the lake, Little Walk Cottage offers contemporary living with great eco credentials. With market towns on the doorstep and miles of open countryside and natural beauty for you to discover, you won't have to venture too far and then it is back to this picture-perfect retreat.

Location

The neighbourhood

Stock up in Waltham where you'll find a couple of mini markets, a windmill and a little museum. The Wolds Edge farm shop has a deli and café and you can buy tasty local meat, including Lincoln Red beef. Grimsby is nearby and you can buy haddock and salmon smoked in the traditional way, or have it delivered. Explore Georgian Louth with its thrice-weekly market and plenty of local artisanal food.

Local points of interest from Emma Milligan-Manby

  • On a cooler day enjoy the Garden Room with it's views over the fields and lake. Get out your watercolour paints and brushes.
  • Watch the owls if there is one in residence in the cottage owl box.
  • Wild swimming enthusiasts will be happy in the lake, or you can try your hand at fly fishing.
  • Enjoy the bees and butterflies which flock round the lavender in the summer.
  • Bring your bike and join the many biking routes straight from the cottage door. The on site bike shed is a plus.
  • Get out and about and visit Louth, Lincoln and the Natural Lincolnshire Coastline.
