The Experience

Sophie and Charles’ Georgian farmhouse is at the top of one of Lincolnshire’s rare hills with far-reaching views over to Belvoir Castle and Newark. Sophie’s great grandfather was involved in the creation of the RAF and a life-size replica of a Lancaster Bomber is going to be sited on the hilltop – guests will be offered a personal tour.

Flower-filled drawing and dining rooms overlook the valley. Breakfast is an event – cereals, fruit salad and yogurts followed by Lincolnshire sausages, home bacon, eggs and marmalade, field mushrooms and locally baked bread. On sunny days eat under the old oak tree – one set of guests were entertained by a visiting family of Little Owls.

Sit in the garden, walk to the lake and woodland beyond; then sleep well in large bedrooms made inviting with gowns, slippers, biscuits and drinks.

Reviews

A lovely characterful farmhouse and comfortable stay. Sophie is a welcoming hostess, the room had everything we could possibly need, and we had a marvellous nights sleep followed by a delicious breakfast!

Shirley, Ditchling

Brills Farm is the perfect antidote to city living: perched on a hill overlooking beautiful unspoilt landscape with horses quietly munching grass in the fields nearby, this is a whole new pace of life. Welcoming hosts; gorgeous, comfortable beds; delicious award-winning breakfasts with eggs and bacon from the farm and plenty of historical places to explore nearby. Heavenly.

Location

The neighbourhood

Brills Farm is on its own about a mile and a half outside the small village of Norton Disney. The area is full of birds, foxes and deer - hares are spotted sometimes. Roman villa remains have been found nearby. Hill Holt Wood, in the village, runs environmental woodland activities and courses, and has a cafe on site. The nearest shops are in Collingham (five-minute drive). Newark is 10 minutes, for antiques and lots of history; Lincoln 15 minutes, for shopping, cathedral and Christmas Fair. Doddington Hall (just outside Lincoln) has gardens, café, restaurant and farm shop/deli. The Green Man in Norton Disney does good food and there are six pubs and restaurants within 10 minutes.

Introducing

Sophie White

Charles and Sophie bought the farm from Charles’ grandfather in 2002 and spent time renovating while retaining many original features. Sophie is a professional cook and event rider; she runs her own wedding and catering company; cookery courses too. She breeds horses and there are around 16 horses here (stabling is available). She’s also MFH for the South Nottinghamshire Hunt. They have four school-age children, who all ride. The farm has 4,500 pigs and supplies Waitrose.
