The Experience
You’re just off the high street for a farm shop, good butcher and The Whitstable Fish Market on the harbour for fresh, sustainable fish and oysters. Bring everything back to the kitchen, a superb space with handmade wooden worktops, a big range cooker, Smeg fridge and every pot and pan you could want – including a lobster pot. Refillable glass jars of pasta, rice etc can be replaced at the zero waste shop, there are cupboards of herbs and spices, plus a bottle of Prosecco cooling.
Bedrooms are spread over the two floors: find vintage beds and mirrors, plants, rich hand cream and bath robes; the downstairs bathroom has a vintage roll top and the upstairs a shower – both have Aesop body wash. In summer you’ll be in the walled garden which is just made for entertaining and has a summerhouse (with a cinema projector and WiFi), a chiminea, hammock, and an outdoor kitchen with a Big Green Egg – perfect for smoking, roasting and pizza making.
If you’re stuck indoors then play some vinyl or a board game, choose a book, light the open fire and settle on a restful Chesterfield.

The Cook’s Cottage is a very thoughtfully put together home, with everything that visitors could possibly need for their stay, from dog treats to an old record player and a fantastic collection of vinyl! Selina was an excellent host, and we thoroughly appreciated the little touches, like the bottle of Prosecco and candle that she leaves for her guests.

Our week at Cooks Cottage in Whitstable was an absolute delight! The cottage's charming decor & thoughtful amenities made our stay truly special. The location is fantastic, just a short hop to the beach, shops & restaurants + it’s dog-friendly, which made it perfect for our furry friend. We loved evenings by the fire, the nostalgic antique record player, the beautifully equipped kitchen that made cooking a joy. Every detail was carefully considered, ensuring we had everything we needed. The only downside was having to leave! We highly recommend Cooks Cottage. Five ⭐️ without hesitation

We had a lovely stay at Cook's Cottage. Selina our host was lovely. Very good communication and nothing was too much trouble. The Cottage itself is beautiful. Charming with shabby chic furniture throughout. It's a home away from home. The location is great, walkable distance to everything. Local eateries such as Birdies, The Neptune were our favourites. The retro old style vinyl record player in the dining room is beautiful. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Had a fab weekend at The Cook's Cottage. Wonderful French farmhouse vibe - beautiful furniture - that made it very easy to relax inside and out. The garden provided entertainment (cinema in summer house) and dappled sunshine for the afternoons. The dog was well catered for with treats galore, big dog bed and an enclosed garden. The welcome hamper and sunflowers were a lovely touch. We loved it instantly. Of course the sunny weather helped too. Stairs might be a challenge for some but they added to the atmosphere of living in a cottage.

We had a delightful five days at Cooks Cottage, with our two Labradors. It is comfortable, quirky and ideally situated in a cul de sac less than five minutes walk from the beach and very close to shops and restaurants. Great fish restaurants, laid back beach-side bar and an amazing artisan cheese shop less than a minute away. My wife particularly liked the variety of clothes shops with different styles! Also several excellent countryside dog walks only 15 minutes drive away. Thoroughly recommended!

The Cook's Cottage is charming and was perfect for our short break by the sea. The overall look is shabby chic, with some interesting French pieces. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you could want with which to make a meal - you just need to go to the excellent local shops to buy your meat, fish and vegetables, as well as excellent sourdough and other breads from the baker. The weather was a bit cloudy when we were there, but we enjoyed having lunch in the lovely dog-escape proof garden. The beds were comfortable and there was enough hanging space and drawers to store our clothes.

We had such an amazing time at the cottage! We were 3 families with 3 children under 6 and a toddler, the stairs gate really helped and there was a cot. Loads of spices and cooking equipment which is appropriated as we love cooking! The cottage is near all the shops and the beach. It’s pets friendly and has loads of dog snacks. The host was communicative and responsive and gave us recommendation and tips. Amazing garden. A great record collection. Will definitely come back with family and friends.

A perfect location to explore Whitstable and Kent. Literally seconds from the main shops and the seafront is barely a minute from the front door yet it was quiet and felt secluded. Parking was easy but we were there off-season and midweek. The owners have packed the cottage with plenty of delightful surprises and the beds really are as comfortable as other reviews suggest. One word of caution - the stairs are very steep and may not suit older or very young holidaymakers

We stayed at the Cook’s Cottage in Whitstable, while we were filming and it was the perfect refuge during our long shoot days. The attention to detail, was second to none. The kitchen was filled with every utensil. The beds were the most comfortable beds I’ve ever stayed in, in a rental property. It was filled with gorgeous furniture in the most perfect location. The hosts were absolutely heavenly, and the most hospitable of them all. I find when I stay in a rental you can feel unsettled for a bit, but the Cook’s Cottage really felt like a home away from home. Thank you X

We really enjoyed our stay at Cook's Cottage. A walk on the beach is literally two minutes away so was perfect for the dog and children. The area is wonderful and we supported the local shops which are amazing. The cottage was perfect for us - 2 adults, 2 children and a dog. So comfortable, fully stocked with everything we needed, and the decor is inspiring. We particularly loved being out in the garden and enjoying meals outside. The children really liked the converted summer house and they loved watching films in there on a night on the projector. Selina was great - would recommend highly

My husband, myself, and our little dog stayed for a few days mid-week in June to celebrate our Anniversary. On our day of arrival we were not able to park on the street, but we managed to get a space just one street over, which was not too far at all. It is a gorgeous house! The interior is designed so beautifully and sympathetically with the period and style of the property. The back garden gets bright sunlight for the vast majority of the day so makes it a beautiful place to spend the day if you want to relax away from the bustle of the high street or beach. We would highly recommend a stay.

Location
The neighbourhood
It's an arty place, Whitstable, so you'll find a myriad of galleries, independent restaurants, pubs and shops. You're also just a 30-second wander to the sea front for a blast of ozone – from here the sunsets are fabulous, and it’s dog-friendly all year round. In Seasalter (10-mins in the car) is The Sportsman - Michelin starred. There are coastal and woodland walks, bird sanctuaries and water sports such as paddle boarding to try.
Local points of interest from Selina & Tom
- Whitstable is known for its spectacular sunsets. Nothing beats sitting outside the Neptune pub and watching the sun go down. It's a Whistable tradition. Everyone stops what they’re doing and heads to the beach to see the sunset at the close of the day.
- Once you've parked your car and checked in to our cottage you won't need to use the car again as everything is just a short walk away, from all the independent shops to the many bars and restaurants. And the beach is just a 30-sec walk to as well!
- Whitstable is foodie heaven and is known for its Oysters and fresh fish. This small coastal town is also packed with lots of amazing places to eat & drink.
- Recommend booking into The Sportsman in Seasalter, a Michelin star restaurant that has stood in its windswept coastal position since 1642. Book ahead as there is a 3-month waiting list. Also, we recommend Wheelers in Whitstable & JoJo's in Tankerton.
- Whitstable is a private beach so dogs are allowed on the beach all year round. Whistable is probably one of the most dog-friendly towns in the UK and most of the bars and some of the restaurants are dog friendly.
- Whitstable and the surrounding area offers some of the best cycling. From the longer Kent Coast Way which is a 68 miles round trip from Whitstable to Sandwich, to the shorter Crab & Winkle Way which is 7.6 miles in total between Whitstable & Canterbury.

Introducing
Selina & Tom
Selina and Tom have spent years renovating the cottage and filling it with their French flea market and vintage shop finds. She's keen that you support the local shops and she leaves lots of information so you can enjoy your stay to the full. They called the cottage The Cook's Cottage because of their love of cooking (especially Tom's), which you can tell by how well-equipped the kitchen is.
Cook’s Cottage is a little gem, perfectly positioned for shopping, restaurants, bars and of course the wonderful dog-friendly beaches. The house itself is gorgeously homely, beautifully furnished and has so many special little touches. A delightful place. Only one word of warning- the stairs to the bedrooms are very steep!
