The Experience
Charming Ursula welcomes you by the freshly painted deep green door of her Georgian cottage. Tucked down a side street just outside the city walls of dreamy Canterbury, this elegantly renovated, listed building has a romantic feel. Find white walls, new wood floors and original artwork in the living room, lots of personal touches to make it homely, and a modern, white-floored kitchen filled with natural light fully equipped to cook up a storm. Step from the smart new dining room into a sunny conservatory with a chaise longue and wicker seating. Upstairs is a good sized, luxurious double with a white-framed bedstead, hot pink cushions and throws and flamingo wallpaper: stylish with a dash of fun. The first-floor single (best for little ones) looks out over the tiny wisteria-filled courtyard, cute with pots and flagstones, patio furniture and barbecue. Climb even further up steep stairs (mind your head) to a comfortable second-floor twin. There’s plenty to explore within a short drive: coastal towns Whitstable, Herne Bay and Broadstairs, medieval Sandwich, and glorious countryside.

I was a lucky winner of a 2-night stay at 14 Love Lane through Sawday’s Canopy & Stars Help Refugees campaign in late 2016. Charming Ursula Wacher made a friend and I very welcome. We loved this cosy, romantic townhouse with its quirky, stylish and thoughtful touches & pretty courtyard. My double bed was luxurious & comfortable (beautiful flamingo wallpaper). Our hostess provided an excellent cooked breakfast each morning – great homemade bread and jam. 14 Love Lane is a stroll away from Canterbury Cathedral, a good choice of restaurants & Waitrose. An ideal special place to stay.

A lovely cosy, very quiet 3 bedroom town house 5 mins walk from Canterbury centre. We loved the decor, homeliness and all the added extras such as the high quality kitchen equipment and utensils, the lovely courtyard to relax in, the bright conservatory, the separate dining room and sitting room as well. Even new board games, books to take away and DVDs are supplied for all entertainment. We did our own self catering which was easy due to the high specifications of everything in the kitchen and dining room. Would definitely recommend this for a lovely relaxed holiday place.

This is a charming cottage steps away from the city centre but situated in a quiet street. It is beautifully decorated, stylish and cosy at the same time. Ursula will cook you a delicious English breakfast in her homely kitchen, and there is always something special on the menu, apple and blackberry compote, or freshly cooked porridge with cinnamon and cranberries. We love the atmosphere of 14 Love Lane and thoroughly recommend. Thank you Ursula for making our stays in Canterbury so enjoyable!

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from Ursula & Christopher Wacher
- Just 5 minutes walk from Canterbury Cathedral and all the main attractions of the city. Canterbury is a vibrant place full of history and yet buzzy with great places to eat and drink, a great theatre, art cinema and lots of shops.
- Within city centre with numerous good restaurants and bars. Canterbury is known for its food, sourced locally from the farms of east Kent and has its own internationally known farmers market at The Goods Shed just a stroll away.
- 20 minutes by car from Whitstable's harbour, shops and restaurants. Convenient for Thanet's beaches and the Turner Contemporary gallery at Margate
- 30 minutes drive to Channel ports and Tunnel and only 56 minutes from London on the High Speed train.
- Canterbury is a great centre for exploring all of east Kent and also for visiting the lovely villages and gardens of the Weald
- You can choose to have bed and breakfast if you like and our in-house chef can provide evening meals or cook for your whole stay if you would like

We’ve stayed at 14 Love Lane on many occasions over the years, most recently as a two generation party and we all absolutely love it. The charming cottage is a perfect base for exploring the city’s shops, restaurants and The Marlowe Theatre as well as the Kent Countryside. There is space indoors and out for us all to relax together or do our own thing (one was revising for exams) and the attention to detail such as three sets of door keys meant that we could all come & go at our convenience.
