The Experience

Surrounded by peaceful countryside the hotel sits in beautifully landscaped gardens oozing 15th-century period charm. Sleep in traditional style in the old farmhouse or more contemporary rooms in the original stables and coach house in the courtyard.

After a magnificent renovation of a derelict 18th-century barn; weddings, parties and events are catered for in style and splendour with a fabulous private dining area for 120 guests, plus a kitchen, funky Cowshed Bar and Lounge with 15 rooms upstairs.

South African chef Sherwin Jacobs cooks up a storm in the kitchen, championing a farm to fork ethos with meat sourced from surrounding farms, game from local shoots and fresh seafood straight from the Norfolk coast topped up with fresh veg and fruits from their own organic no-dig garden. The Farmhouse breakfast sets you up for exploring: Knebworth House & Gardens, Whipsnade Zoo, golf courses galore.

Reviews

Informal small hotel set in peaceful countryside close to Hitchin and the A1M, offering modern British food, a cosy bar, lush gardens for summer al fresco eating, comfortable rooms split between the old farmhouse – think wonky beams and timbers – and a magnificent restored barn, which is a cracking wedding venue too.
