The Experience

There’s a romantic feel to this superb old house with leaded windows through which you have bucolic views. Inside it’s carefully curated to match its history. Find good books, local maps and walking guides – restful to sit before the wood-burner with a board game on a rainy day or to plan your next outing. The country-style kitchen has all the equipment you might need and you eat at a convivial oak table.

Bedrooms (two on the ground floor and one upstairs) are simple, comfortable and charming, two with lovely views; bathrooms are traditional and pristine, two with a shower and one a free-standing cast iron bath. Your private garden faces south and west for more far-reaching views – grand to have breakfast or lunch out here. You’re welcome to wander the Perrycroft Gardens straight from the gate.

On sunny days you can pack up a picnic and head off on sublime walks in the Malvern Hills.

This was such a wonderful visit. My family stayed here in late September. The house is cozy and the host very accommodating. The beds are super comfortable and the fireplace very warm and cozy after a day of walking on the hills. We played many games of Scrabble and Cribbage together and will remember the time we spent as a family here. The kitchen is top notch and fully outfitted. I would highly recommend this as a place to stay!

We had a wonderful weekend here with our family celebrating my 80th birthday. Thank you! We really love the character of the Lodge, and the Voysey touches: the door furniture, none of us had seen doorstops like this before, and we kept noticing different features, the grill in the kitchen, the lead window ledges… It has been so sympathetically modernised and the different rugs and furnishings so appealed. We enjoyed walking from here up onto Jubilee Hill and along to Pinnacle Hill and Black Hill through the shifting mist and cloud, with the views to the valley and Perrycroft coming and going.

Leave the hurly burly of the modern world behind as you arrive and slip into the mood and style of the early 20th century. The views will stop you in your tracks so unpack, open a bottle and head outside to the terrace to decompress and recharge. If time permits take a stroll around the enchanting garden or perhaps further onto the Malvern Hills. This is a calm and elegant bolthole to be sure.

The neighbourhood

You're in the Malvern Hills AONB with a pub and a tea room a short walk away. Bird and animal life is abundant and you can climb British Camp (an Iron Age hill fort.) Malvern has a famous show ground with a flea market and other events. Ledbury is a lovely market town with lots of good shops, especially for antiques – both are about four to five miles. Good food can be had at The Feathers in Ledbury.

Herefordshire Beacon, or British Camp, a spectacular summit in the Malvern Hills AONB - An Iron Age hill fort waiting to be discovered, with a bracing walk and splendid views across Worcestershire, Herefordshire, and as far as the Welsh borders.
The spa town of Great Malvern, at the foot of the Malvern Hills, with its historic 11th century Priory, and fine 19th century architecture, as well as the cutting edge Malvern Theatres, and a Victorian train station with regular connections East and West.
Ledbury, an ancient market town with its rich history and historic buildings stretching back to the 16th century. The iconic timber framed 17th century market house is still centre to a thriving town, with an excellent selection of independent shops.
Eastnor Castle - an imposing and impressive 19th century mock medieval castle designed by Robert Smirke, with spectacular interiors by AWN Pugin - and beautiful gardens and grounds to explore, as well as interesting events throughout the year.
Herefordshire countryside, stretching out to the West as far as the Welsh borders - an unspoilt quintessentially English landscape of rolling green hills, orchards and rivers, castles, manor houses and historic market towns.
Closer to home, wonderfully quiet footpaths lead you across field and through woodland, up onto the Malvern Hills or down into the valley - or you can just be content to stay and relax in the peaceful surroundings of Perrycroft.

Introducing

Gillian Archer

The estate was designed by architect C.F.A. Voysey and completed in 1895. Gillian and her husband Mark bought the property in 1999 and have dedicated themselves to restoring it. They've taken pains to research the original plans of the house so they were able to reinstate it as originally intended and create the gardens. They live in the main house and are on hand if you need help.
