The Experience
This is a romantic escape for couples or a getaway for families who love the countryside: foraging, nature trails, dreamy sunsets, cooking outdoors, endless walks through beautiful landscapes – it’s all easy thanks to next-door, creative owners Polly and Matt (who created the beds from recycled finds).
Inside you’ll find wooden floors, a huge wood-burner with stacks of logs, two squishy sofas, reclaimed lamps, blossom in jars and plenty of books and games. All is colourful and the feel is light and spacious. The grown-up bedroom has an enormous bed with a Matt-inspired scaffolding headboard and an extra day bed in antique wood; adventurous types will be thrilled with the iron steps and canvas door into the tent room under the eaves.
You cook in an open kitchen with plenty of space, some basics in the cupboards and pretty views to the garden and hills.

A tucked away gem, offering adventure or solitude. We had a lovely stay in this gorgeous barn, the children enjoyed exploring the land and we enjoyed the breathtaking views. The barn is well equipped and well thought out and Matt and Polly have left thoughtful touches, like games for the children, comprehensive amount of dvds and an emergency larder for the guests. We'll be back!

The barn itself is cosy, well-equipped and furnished in a lovely rustic style, in keeping with its natural surroundings. It is situated in glorious countryside, reached by meandering lanes, with magnificent views from the balcony terrace where you can enjoy stunning sunsets or a morning coffee. The hosts, Polly and Matt, have also included some great ideas in the visitor's information book for places to visit, eat and gorgeous walks to do. We also loved exploring the hidden valleys with their tiny churches; visiting the book town of Hay; stocking up at the fabulous local shop in Longtown.

We had a wonderful five day trip to the Barn this February half term. It is such a beautiful building and well kept, with everything you need for a happy stay. The children (5 and 3) were delighted with all the toys and games and we had warm evenings in by the fire after wet and muddy days out and about. Our hosts were very helpful when needed but we also felt we had the privacy to really relax. It's incredibly quiet at the Barn, and such a peaceful place to relax and unwind. Highly recommend.

What a stunning place to stay! Tucked away in the beautiful quiet countryside with amazing views across to the black mountains. We had a lovely stay in the Barn, spacious and well equipped, comfy bed, great amenities and a gorgeous log fire for the few chilly July evenings we had! Most welcome after some long walks and a visit to the local pub. We enjoyed a great afternoon canoeing from Glasbury to Hay followed by a look around the shops . We will definitely be back, again, thanks Matt and Polly for a wonderful stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Barn. Fantastic weather helped but the Barn is equipped for any weather – a log burner with a good supply of logs, games and comfortable beds. The look is retro, the ethos environmentally friendly and the views inspiring. Great location for walks, country pubs, Abergavenny and just about the Hay Festival. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of normal life you couldn’t beat this. A warm welcome by Matt and an excellent information book got us off to a good start and things carried on the same way. We’ll be telling our friends about it.

The view is nothing short of splendid and the eye is soothed by the sun rising or falling over the Black Mountain ridge that lies directly ahead providing the perfect accompaniment to breakfast or dinner on the terrace. The children enjoyed feeding apples to the pigs, visiting the chickens and the hammock provided them with endless entertainment. Days were spent either on horseback or trekking the mountains. The nights were cooler and we even lit a couple of log fires. Feels like a world apart – and a wonderful one.

We have holidayed in many cottages over the years and this was hands down the best cottage we've stayed out. Everything about was spot on. I particulalry loved the outside space (the little hut, the multiple sitting areas, the space, the quietness) , however that does not belittle the inside. It is not often you can holiday in the UK with 2 teenage kids & everyone would wan to stay longer. Thoroughly recommend

We had an amazing stay at Warmth & Wonder. As parents of two young children we could not have had a more cosy and fun family holiday - extremely well set up for kids. The location is really stunning and our hosts were warm and welcoming. Could not recommend the barn enough.

Our 2nd visit: the first with Forest Church (informal spiritual retreat) 2 months ago; the second with my family sons, daughters, partners & grandchildren. Both visits were delightful, though being in such an idyllic place with those that I love most was wonderful. My son described it as one of the most beautiful places he had been to; I agree. Matt & Polly,, both very warm & genuine people, have thought of every detail to make the stay in the barn, a great conversion, very comfortable & easy. The information “bible” is a classic. I loved being there & will return again & again.

Just returned from a lovely weekend, away from it all, at The Barn at Warmth & Wonder. This was a random choice, booked merely as a midway meeting point with family, for some 'catch up and chill time' and did not disappoint. Unfortunately, the weather was not summer at its best but the comfort in The Barn made up for that. There are plenty of games and DVDs, if required, to while away the time. There are also plenty of walks in the surrounding area and 48 acres on site to explore. Would love to return for a week at some point to fully explore the area, in and around, properly.

Wonderful stay, so relaxing, we are already planning to return. Great base for amazing black mountain walks but always so lovely returning to the comfort of the barn and it’s lovely setting. We loved walking up through the woods via the rope swing to fabulous mountain views, drinking morning coffee outside with Hatterrall Ridge in front of us and always having such a cosy base to return to. The rustic style is perfect and the homemade sourdough on arrival delicious. Thank you!

I was so looking forward to our weekend break and it did not disappoint. Matt and Polly have worked hard to create a lovely haven in a beautiful setting, and then been kind enough to share it with others! Though there's plenty to occupy in the locality, we were just delighted to take walks on the farm, help feed the pigs, watch the DVDs, play games and cook some absolutely delicious cookies which they left ingredients for. When we needed things we'd forgotten to bring, Matt and Polly were there to help, but we also had space to unwind. Thank you! Family of five

Introducing
Matt & Polly Freer
Matt manages the farm and woodland and works in the charity sector, Polly is a counsellor. They have a sensitive approach to managing 48 acres including wilding and grazing. There are ducks, chickens and lots of wildlife.
Set in a beautiful rural landscape a million miles away from the stress and strain of most people's lives is a barn with a huge log burner and everything needed for a cozy break. There's plenty of space and it's very comfortable. We were prepared to get wet and muddy knowing we'd end up back at Garn Farm at the end of the day. There are still pubs here, most serving good food and the walks can be simple or challenging. Great afternoon playing some of the many games provided and the kitchen area is a great space to prepare food. We've got to come back in the spring or summer. Loved it!
