The Experience
Stylishly renovated, this historic inn backs on to the river Test with a glorious riverside garden for summer dining under a tipi, music evenings and open-air cinema. Fisherfolk will be delighted to know they have their own half-mile fishing beat and hut downriver.
Indoors, the feel is relaxed and informal with a cosy beamed bar and roaring fire. You dine by flickering candlelight on superb food; menus are interesting and inventive, locally sourced and always seasonal. The wine list is eclectic and if you try something you like, pick up a bottle to take home from Wine Utopia on the high street.
Quirky 16th-century character meets contemporary chic in the seven warm and inviting upstairs rooms and in the three smart and spacious rooms in an adjoining cottage. Bang up-to-date bathrooms are utterly spoiling. Tuck into a delicious breakfast before a gentle stroll around Stockbridge; strike out to Winchester and Salisbury.

Introducing
Lucy Townsend
Lucy trained as a pastry chef and worked alongside James Martin, head chef at the original Hotel du Vin in Winchester during the 90s. She spent time in Australia before returning to the UK to set up the Miller's Collection pubs group in Hampshire. She bought the Greyhound in 2012, overseeing a superb renovation, and has a fantastic small team to support in the kitchen and front of house.
The smart colour-washed Greyhound cuts a dash on the high street in upmarket Stockbridge, drawing an affluent crowd, from fishing folk to shooters and foodies from town, for stylish rooms and Phil Bishop's ambitious modern British cooking. The garden beside the river Test is the sublime setting for summer tipi dining, open-air opera/cinema, and some of the best fly fishing in the country.
