Lake House Cottage

This used to be the gardener’s cottage so you’re near the old walled garden, now complete with a pool, barbecue and fire pit – a grand spot for a picnic so wander down with your bottle of estate wine when the weather is fine. You also have a large terrace, facing southwest with a table for al fresco meals and sun loungers. The upstairs vaulted drawing room is huge with soft sofas and chairs, a log-burner, books and games, long views over the lower lake and a restful feel.

Bedrooms, some downstairs, are well-dressed and have leafy views but most of all they are incredibly peaceful so you should sleep soundly. Wander to the pool for an early morning swim (you’ll find towels), eat breakfast in the big friendly kitchen beside another log-burner or be catered for by the chef Becka Cooper who creates delicious meals.

Set off on long walks through the estate with multiple paths, spot many birds, play tennis, or make pizza.
