The Experience
Set in 50 acres on the edge of the New Forest, in a clearing a mile or so up a track, stands John’s striking barn, all black wood panels, red pantiles and glorious glass in one gable end. Surrounded by grass, woodland and birdsong, it’s a conversion of John’s workshop and tractor store. Wife Bobbie lives next door and is usually on hand to welcome you. Bring the family or come with friends; space is no issue in the sitting room and dining area, which open to the tiled hallway and smart kitchen. One bedroom is downstairs, with wet room (easy access), and two more, with shared bathroom, are on the mezzanine, from where the master looks down into the living area. Neutral shades are punctuated by accents of colour in cushions, curtains and throws. Curl up in front of the stove (logs provided), play board games, go pond dipping, or cycle the riverside paths (some bikes available). The enclosed garden is laid to lawn and there’s a wooden play fort for children to enjoy near the barn. Pubs and a shop are in nearby Wellow, Romsey’s just four miles away, and Marwell Zoo and Salisbury are within reach.

What's unique about the Middletons and their home is that you know you are getting away from it all and they want you to enjoy that. It's such a special place because although you could spend your whole stay not seeing another soul it's still only a 10-minute car ride to find all that you need if the family gets bored or you decide to explore beyond the haven that is Johns Barn.

We loved the architecture of the barn and the layout. It has everything you need. John and Bobbie were lovely always to help and provide information on the local area. The surrounding land was magical and feeding the fish was also a great activity - great to see large wild fish so close up. Incredibly clean and full of nice design touches. Fantastic great also- it was even better than the pictures. It is a hidden gem. A peaceful place to replenish oneself. Highly recommend

John Barn is the most amazing place to stay. Clean beyond doubt! Beautiful, peaceful, idyllic. A must for everyone.. the owners are amazing people and very kind. Set in 50 acres of woodland it’s a dream. The New Forest is amazing as are the people. It’s extremely dog friendly and there’s just so much to see and do. We will definitely be returning to Johns Barn. It’s somewhere for most that only dreams are made of. If you love the country and the peace and nature this is where it is with the deer and wildlife on your doorstep!

Location
The neighbourhood
Local points of interest from Bobbie Middleton
- John's Barn is set in ancient woodland where wildlife abounds and deer nibble in the nearby fields. The woods are a haven for birds, squirrels and bunnies. The lake is stocked with friendly carp that can be fed or fished and at dusk badgers can be spotted.
- Children will love the freedom of exploring the private woodlands, fields, river and lake. There are dens to be built, paths to be cycled and adventures to be had! The garden surrounding the barn is fenced in so children and dogs can play safely.
- For sporting enthusiasts there is the new forest just a 5 min drive away. You can explore the forest by cycle, on horse back or on foot. There are many lovely pubs to be discovered and John and Bobbie will share their best kept secrets.
- Eat at home, BBQ on the terrace or venture afield to some of the local eateries. The nearby town of Stockbridge is a foodie haven including a Michelin restaurant and the nearby market town of Romsey offers an abundance of restaurants.
- The popular Peppa Pig World is just 5 minutes away, Moors Valley country park with its 'Go-Ape' is great for a day trip. The blackboard in the barn is filled with John and Bobbie's top tips for a day out. Jurassic coast just an hour's drive away away.
- Historic attractions include Stonehenge, the cathedral towns of Winchester and Salisbury, and the historic Portsmouth dockyard, home to HMS Victory and the Mary Rose. Bucklers Hard in the forest and stately homes such as Beaulieu Abbey are worth a visit.

Delightful place, deep in the woodlands, where we spent a week over Christmas. The house itself is lovely, bright and well appointed. One of the highlights was seeing three deer and a white hart, as we ate breakfast. Bobbie’s instructions to get to the house are accurate, but read them carefully, if you’re arriving in the dark. We imagine that the house would be ideal in summer for a young family.
